Comments: Cigarettes and Coffee

Peter Falk in "Wings of Desire." (i cheated...)

Well, that was anticlimactic. :) Goesy, next time I see ya, you've got a beverage and smoke comin' your way.

By the way, this is my chance to plug "Wings of Desire" as a simply great film. And a new special edition DVD has just been released, with commentary by director Wim Wenders. Peter Falk actually plays himself, and in the above scene he's explaining to an angel-turned-human some of the simple joys of being human. He shows his new friend how to sip the coffee, smoke the cig, and rub hands together real fast on a cold day.

Whenever I get up for my first cig of the day, especially if it's cold and rainy, I think of that scene.

Okay, that was anticlimactic, but the game has potential. Don't give up.
And just for the record, in case I ever win,I prefer bourbon in my diet coke. Is that an option?

Bourbon is always an option. You'll have to buy your own, though, unless you want to drive to Chattanooga and drink it on my back porch. I'm not mailing Jim Beam. :)

Bourbon in your diet coke? Bizarre-o. I've only met one other person that did that, it was in an old miners bar in the Sierra's and this stringy old lady was ordering them one after another "Wild Turkey and diet coke, no ice" over and over again. Man, that was a long time ago...

Jim Beam and Pepsi. Try it, you'll like it.

I have. I do.

Can any of these top a well prepared Jack and Coke? I haven't tried them, but somehow I doubt it.

No, the bourbon and diet can't beat a jack and coke, but if you're going for diet drinks, it's the way to go (although I have been known to mix rum and diet 7up and it's pretty darn good too).

...stringy old lady in a miner's bar? Sounds familiar. Maybe that was me. Oh wait, no it wasn't. I learned the joys of bourbon and diet when I went to party school.
