on music (imagine that)

i went to a performance last night featuring ULM's concert choir and chamber singers. it was beautiful. they performed a part of something by mozart (the somlemn vespers) and it made me think of how the music was written. the way mozart wrote vocal parts to go with an orchestra, the voices matched the instruments (if you've seen amadeus you know what i mean). it could "hear" the instruments just by listening to the vocal parts. it was amazing. they're performing with the masterworks choir and a full orchestra in about a month and i very much want to go.

Sabbath reflection part 2 Zion

Sabbath reflection part 2
Zion Found On The Mountains
Zion, founded on the mountains,
God, thy Maker, loves thee well;
He has chosen thee, most precious,
He delights in thee to dwell;
God’s own city, God’s own city,
God’s own city, who can all thy glory tell?

Heathen lands and hostile peoples
Soon shall come the Lord to know;
Nations born again in Zion
Shall the Lord’s salvation show;
God Almighty, God Almighty,
God Almighty, shall on Zion strength bestow.

When the Lord shall count the nations,
Sons and daughters He shall see,
Born to endless life in Zion,
And their joyful song shall be:
“Blessèd Zion, blessèd Zion,
Blessèd Zion, all our fountains are in thee.”

the ouachita river in the bathtub
i'm in monroe this week for some training with work so i'm staying with a relative to keep from having to drive back and forth every day. i ran some bathwater while i was getting undressed and when i went back to the bathtub it was full of brown water. that's right BROWN. as i stepped in i thought "welcome to monroe."

Sabbath reflection part one Now

Sabbath reflection part one
Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And your Seed," who is Christ. And this I say that the law, which was our hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confimred before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise...For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's then you are Abrahams's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Galatians 3:16-18,26-29

O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleseant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance.
Psalm 16:5,6

our adoption during church this

our adoption
during church this morning, my pastor was preaching on Genesis 15 and the righteousness of Abram (see vs 6) and somehow he got to talking about our adoption into the church of Christ and i just hadn't heard it this way before kinda just made me go "duh" and want to hit myself on the head. anyway he said (paraphrase) "we aren't brought into the church by being born to Christian parents, but we are adopted into the church by our baptism. the fact that we're born to Christian parents doesn't secure our entry into the church but only gives us the priviledge/right to be baptized into it."

Who Are These Like Stars

Who Are These Like Stars Appearing
Who are these like stars appearing,
These before God’s throne who stand?
Each a golden crown is wearing;
Who are all this glorious band?
Alleluia! Hark, they sing,
Praising loud their heav’nly King.

Who are these of dazzling brightness,
These in God’s own truth arrayed,
Clad in robes of purest whiteness,
Robes whose luster ne’er shall fade,
Ne’er be touched by time’s rude hand?
Whence come all this glorious band?

These are they who have contended
For their Savior’s honor long,
Wrestling on till life was ended,
Following not the sinful throng;
These who well the fight sustained,
Triumph through the Lamb have gained.

These are they whose hearts were riven,
Sore with woe and anguish tried,
Who in prayer full oft have striven
With the God they glorified;
Now, their painful conflict o’er,
God has bid them weep no more.

These, like priests, have watched and waited,
Offering up to Christ their will;
Soul and body consecrated,
Day and night to serve Him still:
Now in God’s most holy place
Blest they stand before His face.

O Lord, show thy mercy

O Lord, show thy mercy upon us and grant us thy salvation. O God, make clean our hearts within us and take not thy Holy Spirit from us. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. Amen.

The Collect for the Twenty-first

The Collect for the Twenty-first Sunday after Trinity
Grant, we beseech thee, mericful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be clenased from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

mamaw (pronouced "ma'am-awe")
i just found out that my grandmother (my mom's mom) has to have a masetomy due to cancer on thursday. the other is already gone and they won't know until they get in there if it's in her lymph nodes or anything. if it is there then she will more than likely have to have chemo/radiation done. she's already skin and bones and i don't think that her little body can handle it. so we're praying that it's not in the lymph nodes and they can get everything on thursday.

the grind
rachel admitted that she was depressed and i believe that i to a certain extent am too. i just feel like having a pity party for myselft lately. especially after work today. there was a man that came in this afternoon (he's one of our premier customers) and everybody was busy. i tried to help him but i'm still not sure of how to figure things out on the system. i had to eventually go get my manager who was working on some continuing ed stuff and didn't want to be disturbed. she ended up taking him into her office and talking to him for a good while (i think like 20 or 30 mintues). after that customer left i apologized to her for having to pull her away from her studies to help him. her response? she just looked at me. no "it's ok", no nod of the head. nothing. it literally made me feel this big. sometimes i feel like i'm not the right one for this job. i thought i had done so well this week so far and now i feel like i have to be on my toes for the next week and a half before i go to teller training. it's one of the hardest things for me to have to tell a customer "i don't know." when i had my oncampus job at the bookstore before graduating, i knew most everything (especially in my department) and now with this job i don't know a thing. i have to tell a customer at least once a day that i need to go get someone to help me answer their question or to perform some simple task for them. i know i'm still on the bottom of the learning curve and i'm on my way up but still...

definitions
just something to think about....whenever you look up a word in the dictionary, what is the meaning of that word? well, it's the combination of other words and their definitions. it's like an infinite cycle of what just one word means. it just blows my mind to think that we define words with other words and who's to say that that's what it really means. does anybody else get what i'm saying?

one of ruston's own
(i went to school with this guy. he was only a year ahead of me.)

Rookie Patrick Ramsey came off the bench and threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns as the Washington Redskins bounced back after two straight losses to beat the Tennessee Titans 31-14 Sunday. Danny Wuerffel made his first NFL start in four years, but the 1996 Heisman winner lasted just one series before leaving with an injured right shoulder. Spurrier sent in Ramsey, and the rookie didn't give his coach any reason to turn to Shane Matthews, who had started the first three games."We don't have to write about who's going to play quarterback for a while,'' Spurrier said. "He's our guy. Hopefully, he can stay healthy and keep getting better and go the distance.'' Unless Spurrier changes his mind this week, Ramsey will become the 14th starting quarterback in the Redskins' last 10 seasons when the team hosts New Orleans on Sunday. Ramsey, Washington's first-round draft pick, easily handled pressure from the blitzing Titans (1-4). He rallied the Redskins (2-2) from a 14-10 halftime deficit by leading them to two touchdowns in the third quarter to clinch the victory. He also impressed Spurrier, which isn't easy to do. "I didn't know that he could step up in there with guys flying around him and make the throws he did. That was crucial,'' the coach said. "Anybody who says it doesn't matter who plays back there is wrong.'' "He avoided the rush here and there, stepped up and hit a lot of good third down plays, kept drives going. I didn't know he could do that. None of us did,'' Spurrier added. "We knew he could look good in practice, but the game's a different story. He proved to us he could play.'' Ramsey was 20-of-34, and Washington rolled up 442 yards. Stephen Davis ran for a touchdown and caught another despite spraining a ligament in his right knee at the end of the first quarter. He returned in the third quarter, with the knee tightly taped, and finished with 90 yards on 18 carries. This game featured two of the NFL's worst defenses, but the Redskins played much better in this game, coming up with four turnovers and four sacks. They held Tenneesee to 289 total yards....Ramsey started slowly, going three-and-out on two of his first three drives before getting his timing together. He drove the Redskins 90 yards over 6:33, hitting 6 of 12 passes for 97 yards, including a 20-yarder to Rod Gardner for a touchdown and a 10-7 lead. He added a 23-yard TD pass to Lockett in the third.

Lamentations 3:22-26
Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
"The LORD is my portion," says my soul,
"Therefore I hope in Him!"
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
