Ugh. Yet, Cool. And, Ugh, Some More

I'm rather embarrassed (and not a little surprised) to admit that I overslept my alarm this morning and missed the Divine Liturgy. Not the least does this bother me in that it is a major feast today and in that we had several baptisms and chrismations today, and I failed to be there to add my prayers.

Although we had a long day yesterday (I began loading the truck shortly after ten, and we finished the second trip about five-thirty), full of lifting and shifting and pushing and sweating, it's not as though I didn't take a break with the guys at lunch and eat some pizza. And I went to bed an hour earlier than normal. Still, I somehow managed to oversleep.

Perhaps Steve, in a comment on an earlier post, is right: maybe my body finally realized it had hit the end of the stress of the last three months, and with the chance to work all that out physically yesterday, sort of took over and got some rest it craved. I will say this: it was very good to work so physically hard yesterday. It felt good to sweat and breathe hard and strain. I'm a little sore for yesterday's effort, but even that feels good. Maybe I really did need that exertion to sort of release all the tension of the past three months. I can say that even though I've been feeling quite happy and blessed in these past couple of weeks by one good circumstance after another, with yesterday's efforts behind me, I really have a great mindset.

And it is a great relief to finally be moved. In a lot of ways we've been moving since mid-March when we took the first load of stuff over to the Gallo's. By using friends and their vehicles, and doing it several times, we finally got all our stuff in on 30 April. To get it from there to here, there was no way I was going to further abuse my friends by dragging it out. Economic necessity may have dictated doing it the way we did when we left our old apartment, but the gifts of friends and family made it unthinkable to do so again. To get it all done in one day was the best way, and a real relief.

When it comes to moving, I'm a lot like my dad. I hate to invite a bunch of friends to help load and unload the truck and not do my fair share of the lifting. But I think I should have done a little more organizing of the unloading of the truck yesterday afternoon. Most of the stuff got to the respective room it needed to be in, but many of the boxes should've been put along the walls and corners and stacked a little differently. Things were pretty spread out when it was said and done yesterday, leaving little room to maneuver. I've done a little of that reorganizing today, and it's amazing what sort of space opens up.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you (for any of the guys who helped yesterday who are reading this)! I'd rather have it the way it is, believe me, than face the alternative.

But it does underscore that I've got the sort of reorganizing I need to get done before I leave to see my wife and daughters on Tuesday. I've got to open up space to get a crib set up in the girls' room, and put the futon frame together in the front room. There will be some boxes to take downstairs, once I sort through them, too.

But, as is my refrain of late, it's all good. These are much better "problems" to have than what we've been going through.
