"If You See Kay"

Jesse Sheidlower addresses the Britney Spears "controversy" surrounding her encoding of F-U-C-K-Me in the lyrics of her latest song, "If you seek Amy". He points out that this trick is hardly something novel, having been done previously by no less literary giants than Joyce and Shakespeare.

"In Twelfth Night, Olivia's butler Malvolio receives a letter written by Maria but in Olivia's handwriting; analyzing the script, Malvolio says, 'By my life this is my lady's hand. These be her very C's, her U's and her T's and thus makes she her great P's."

This certainly would have brought a little color to my Shakespeare class in college.
