Chattanooga Election Endorsements 2009
With the exception of the dramas in District 6 ("Marti Lives Here!") and District 7 ("'You're a racist.' 'No you're the racist!'"), it's been a pretty lackluster buildup to the election tomorrow. Sure, the Mayor decided it was better to apologize than to ask permission, and Joe Lance tried a novel approach to politics: integrity and thoughtfulness, but after the shenanigans of 2005 you'd think we'd have something a bit more entertaining than Thomas Smith's Sunglass-Hidden Tears for the Impoverished. Sadly, that hasn't been the case.
So, my "endorsements" for the relevant districts where I live/work:
District 8 - Andrae McGary. Intelligence, passion, youth and an aggressive use of the social web.
District 7 - the ubiquitous Manny Rico. A candidate without peer (or guile). He'll always be there for you, literally, in person, especially if you have a buffet. It's not a one-way affair, he's brought you a present.
Mayor - this one hasn't been easy. I still contend that the Mayor was/is beatable, having lost a good bit of African-American support without the anointing of Ward Crutchfield, the Homebuilders Association isn't half the lobby it once was and the HCGOP (even with Dan Johnson's watchful eye) is no fan. The Mayor's only serious opponent, Rob Healy, looking to alter an unfair reputation for being a "hot-head", gave away the initiative by failing to go on the attack early, allowing the Mayor define the terms of the election i.e. blandness. Rob's a good man, but it pains me to see inferior politics and campaigning lose out to mediocre politics and campaigning. I'm writing in Joe Lance.

Andrae McGary gave a fantastic presentation at Pecha Kucha. I like his politics and persona.

So your backing out on the public endorsement you gave for Rob Healy at green|spaces a few weeks ago? What gives? And voting for Joe Lance is basically not voting since he's withdrawn, although he would make a great mayor.
