New Rock/Creek Store at Two North Shore

This weekend Andy & I were able to get a tour from Mark @ Rock/Creek of their new store on Manufacturers Road in the Two North Shore development.

In the pictures you can catch glimpses of the new Rock/Creek visual identity, done by our friends at Widgets & Stone, and soon to be seen on all things Rock/Creek.

The space & building is incredible. It felt like I was at some new ski development at Lake Tahoe or in the Rockies. The new building is LEED certified, built by the good green builders at Strauss Construction.

In addition, we also got to look around the new Greenlife Grocery next door to Rock/Creek. Their space was over the top, on par (or beyond) the coolest markets in NYC or SF. Can't wait for it to open! How about they do a Greenlife Bodega on the Southside?

how 'bout some healthy competition for Greenlife! The prices are waaaaay to much for this grocery shopping mama. I love natural, but I like budgets too. I miss my Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I don't have a $200 a week grocery budget dudes.

Thanks Josiah. Good to see you over here the other day. We're set to open today (Tuesday the 2nd) at 10AM. We're also having a vendor fair from 1-6PM on Friday, so come back and check it out.

Oh, and katiek, my theory is that once Greenlife can do more volume in this new store, the prices will come down a bit. (I'm hoping).

Katiek,

I completely agree! I go to GreenLife about once a week and I leave angry every time I go. The lack of competition forces me to keep going back. What makes me angry is that they are trying to sell “cool” at the expense of those who can’t afford to purchase natural and organic products from them. I know the coop movement has been really growing in Chattanooga, but you cannot really get fresh organic vegetables and natural chicken from a coop. It is really a disgrace that lower income people are being cut off from organics because they cannot pay the "cool overhead" that GreenLife demands.

Checked out the new locations yesterday. Both stores look really great. If I go into Greenlife to grab lunch, then all is well. If I go in to buy produce, meat, cheese or bread I get mad quick. The prices are stupid. The quality of their products isn't all that hot and the choices leave a lot to be desired.

I really hope the new store's capacity will make the store more accessible.

Gid, there are all sorts of options for affordable organic & local meat & produce from our foodshed, such as Crabtree Farms & Sequatchie Cove Farm

katiek,

Whole Foods and Trader Joe's probably won't be doing much business in Tennessee as long as we continue to carry outdated and incoherent blue laws that prohibit the sale of wine in grocery stores (they both devote a significant amount of square footage to impressive and inexpensive wine selections). Of course, if we're lucky, they might open up stores within range in North Georgia (but it would be nice to get the stores and the revenue too!).

I don't really know all of the rules...but here in Massachusetts grocery stores cannot sell beer and wine. Ironically, Trader Joes and a few Whole Foods can. There's some way they are getting around alcohol issue.

Yeah, alice, I'm aware of the reasons that Whole Foods and trader Joe's won't come. Since I live in the hot spot of the Main Street Revival, I"m hoping that Rossville becomes a target for progression. I already know one artist (and a profitable one at that) that has leased over 3000 sq ft in Rossville because his bills at Rivoli were too high. Crabtree Farms is there, I mean it's possibly promising. I have gone to Greenlife twice since I've moved back to Chatt from the ATL and it's made me too mad to go back. Of course GA sales tax would definately benefit food prices as well. The over 9 percent has taken my breath away sometimes.
