I Am Legend Trailer
As a long time junkie of post-apocalyptic / dystopia films (along with their sister genres, vampire & zombie), hearing that a remake (sort of) of The Omega Man was forthcoming made me very very happy. It was my Dad (Happy Fathers Day!) who first introduced me to the genre via The Omega Man, Planet of the Apes (damn dirty!), Soylent Green (it's people!), Escape from New York, The Running Man, The Mad Max films (it was all the Jews fault), Waterworld (Dryland!), Tank Girl, Rollerball, Red Dawn (Wolverines!!!), etc. It's surprising to me that I ever did a stint as a post-millennialist. I doubt these films were in my homeschool curriculum either; one more reason I'm grateful to my Dad.
Onwards: The Omega Man was based on a novel by Richard Matheson called "I Am Legend". The new film, starring Will Smith, has the same name.

I have to admit, I was a pretty huge fan of The Omega Man in high school. Its definitely way up there for me in the Heston canon. But I dont know about this remmake. I mean I think I loved The Omega Man precisely because it was Charlton Heston doing the ass kicking. Im not sure Im going to buy into Will Smith the same way. Now if they remade this movie today with Chuck reprising his role in his old age, now that would be a great movie.

Todd you're absolutely right. Throw Chuck H. into the mix: instant gravitas. Setting Chuck aside, what actor is the perfect dystopian protagonist? Right now my money is on Clive Owen.

I saw the postman for the sole reason of seeing Tom Petty in a movie. Being a bit tom petty fan i was pumped... alas he was in it at the very end and didn't have much of a role. He was a mayor of one of the suriving towns, and in a weird way sort of plays him self.
Costner looks at hiim and says, "You, you used to be famous..."
Petty, "Yeah but those times are over..."
or something to that affect.
The movie had huge potential but the point of the movie was kind of lame, grandeous setting, lame plot.
