My Kingdom For A Donkey
All credit is due to the Gators. They're the National Champs and ended all debate on whether or not they'd earned the right to play for the National Championship (not that any debate was left after Michigan's choke).
After a season like this, where I just want my team to love me as much as I love them, a season that fostered so much promise only to end in consecutive heartbreaks, really, the only thing that gives me comfort is knowing that Julian has a pet miniature donkey. That he cares for. Deeply.
One of my fiercely desired "hopes that during my lifetime" is that this unsatisfying BCS system will be supplanted by a playoff system. As to the "SEC superiority debate", did anyone predict Florida to win and both Tennessee & Arkansas to lose (the LSU win was a given)? These things hurt the brain and challenge ones stamina & appetite for a sport with minimal resolution; little beyond "team A is better than team B because team A won".
So, I will spend the next 7 months nursing my College Football wounds, thinking often Julian faithfully tending to and caring for his equus asinus. Those thoughts and images will slowly warm and carry my soul through the remainder of a cold winter, on into the renewal of spring, the fecundity of summer, and the hope of a team reborn.

I, for one, appreciate your apology to the Gators and Gator fans everywhere. Other than Fair-Weather-Tim, all Gators I know predicted the Gators to win. Underdog is a good position for us.
As for playoffs? i'm for it.

Ari, it's not in Boston proper. It's in Allston, the poor student district. Anything goes here. Elissa, Macey's deserted me for the holidays, so I found the nearest approximation I could to tide me through 'til he returns. Docile, affable, charmingly hirsute - only drawback is the damnably slow progress on sonnet composition. And Chris . . . sure. You win.
