The Best Movie Of The Year?

Folks are going nuts over Children of Men, which unfortch isn't out yet in The 'Noog. The film is an adaptation by Alfonso Cuaron of a P.D. James novel of the same name. Mesh managed to catch a viewing in Seattle the other day and he said it was fantastic.

I've read the book, which while fitting with certain "dystopian" conventions, is more narrow in narrative scope and thematically cautious than I had expected. The trailer and early reviews betray a movie very different than the novel, though nobody seems to be complaining.

The trailer for Children of Men is by far my favorite movie trailer of the year, due in no small part to its use of one of my favorite songs of last year, "Hoppipolla" by Sigur Ros.

In another life I'd make movie trailers, with the goal of making something half as compelling as the Children of Men trailer.

First Things is complaining, but they sound a little paranoid, if you ask me.

Mars Hill Audio has an interesting discussion of James, and you might want to check out Jeffrey Overstreet's review. I think you might appreciate some of his work.
