Two Books
I read the new Martin Amis, "House of Meetings", over the last two days. A stunning work, MA packs so much in and his prose is -as always- impeccable. It makes me loath to even type a blog entry, his mastery of the English language is so comprehensive. Read Koba the Dread first, then House of Meetings. Will make you believe that there's not a Russian out there who doesn't think that Putin actually did poison Litvinenko.
I'm now reading Umberto Eco's "Baudolino", pillaged from the bookshelf of Lang Martin. Eco is, as always, a blast to read if you're like me and enjoy a little semiotics and historical-ish fiction (particularly medieval).
My one regret in reading the novel is that I don't have sufficient wi-fi connection here to constantly check Wikipedia for further background/insight on characters and places. Eco's portrait of the Sack of Constantinople in 1204 during the Fourth Crusade is downright heartbreaking.
Tomorrow we're meeting up with the Allison's in B-Ham. Should be fun.

I read Baudolino when it first came out. I like to read Eco's books. The Name of the Rose is one the best mysteries I have ever read. When you ge t near the end, don't read Baudolino late at night, or you'll never be able to follow it. He slips into the more of his Island of the Day Before style of writing rather than the more succinct Rose.
