Dow - The Human Element

I saw the commercial numerous times over the weekend watching football and The World Series, and I loved it. It's the new commercial from The Dow Chemical Company.

At first glance I thought "what on earth is a b2b chemical company doing advertising during the World Series, and even then, what exactly are they advertising?" I suppose when you've got operating profits of $5.4 billion dollars, and your "product" isn't a. one single product and b. isn't end-consumer, you can afford to drop a few million on an ad with the sole purpose of making you seem cool and humanitarian.

I don't know who did the commercial, but I know it was part of the whole Dow "Get Us Away from the Agent Orange Stigma" re-branding-ish contract that was awarded to Interpublic. Given that Interpublic is a big fat communications & advertising holding company, I've found it rather difficult to determine which agency actually created and/or produced the commercial.

Here's the online press kit, I'm guessing from another one of Interpublic's subsidaries.

Enjoy the commercial.

Dow does have a few consumer products, most noteably Styrofoam and a few common pesticides and herbicides. Look under your bathroom sink and you should see the Dow logo on a few rather nasty chemicals. They used to own Ziploc and Saran, but sold those brands a few years back.

The media firm seems to be GolinHarris.

GolinHarris is the PR firm, a subsidiary of Interpublic, and PR firms don't usually handle something like the comprehensive advertising campaign seen in the DOW stuff. I'm curious as to who the ad agency was.
