Facebook Open Registration

Facebook Open Registration

It sure took long enough. Facebook earlier today opened up their network to open registrations. You no longer need a .edu account, so now you can signup with whatever e-mail account and join work, region, or school related networks. It's great.

Facebook is, IMO, the best social networking site out there. It's feature rich but intuitive and generally avoids the meat-market shenanigans of myspace. Also, the design is impeccable and it doesn't suffer from any of the errors and system failures that Myspace has on a regular basis.

The only thing myspace has on Facebook is the template customization. I'd find this a bigger problem, if the interface for customizing your myspace profile was, well, an interface and not a bungled load of pre-2K table based junk.

My thinking is that Facebook will eventually allow for template customization, but they'll do it right, with standards-based CSS.

Anyways. I'm on Facebook. Look me up.

Note to myspace users: your embedded music and myspace videos are annoying.

Josiah, I don't think you understand Facebook at all. What was great about FB was that it didn't try to be just another social networking site.

Template customization is what ruins the appeal of Myspace for me, even more than the "meat market." Let's face it - most people don't know the first thing about designing a website.

The day when FB pages become just another webpage w/user-chosen data is the day I stop using FB.

Open registration sounds okay, but I'm not seeing that it's actually be implemented in a way that current users can actually use it.
