The New Brokeback Underworld

My Free Mac Mini

I received my free mac mini today. Its going to be April's computer since our old Dell laptop died. Its a thing of beauty.

Went on a movie binge this weekend. Brokeback Mountain was very, very good. The New World, Terrence Malick's latest film, was very, very good (though I've drunk the Malick kool-aide), and Underword: Evolution was very, very bad.

I'm sorta creeped out by myself in this photo. I feel so shiny.

How long did it take you to get that? I know you had to refer other people, but how many? I knew there were success stories in getting this "free schwag", but no one I have known.

I'm curious to know how a movie condoning such obvious sin, and contributing to the disgustingness of our society, showing how that lifestyle just ends up being a "sad love story" can be very, very good. I'm not trying to hate on you or the movie (well, maybe a little on the movie), I'd just like to know your rationalizations.

Perhaps it is possible to separate the quality of a movie from it's content? Or perhaps the movie has other redemptive qualities despite having what some consider to be a degenerate quality? Just a couple of thoughts.

You can plug. I’ll help. One of the things that I appreciated about your review, whether you had intended to or not, was the fact that you described the beauty of the film without condoning the sexual ‘proclivity’.

For those that are opposed to viewing Brokeback, I’ll try and be sensitive to the fact that there are some whose conscience should not see it, it should be noted that:

-if they had seen the film they would be impressed with the fact that the film itself, much less my viewing of it, does not condone nor contributes to the ‘disgustingness of our society’ (as Josiah said, ‘whatever that means’)
-if they had seen the film Ang Lee’s focus on the complexity of emotions and pain that this love caused to the whole family would have been evident…and would feel familiar to their own inner struggles.
-if they had seen the film they might appreciate the beauty of the cinematography, the sadness in lost love, the wonderful directing with concise openings and closings of scenes, and the enormity of emotions conveyed with so few words.

The question asked isn’t a horrible thing to discuss. What really gets me though is the asking without a name.
