They Have Come Back From The Dead!!
Finished my next CD/playlist for Joel. This one is somewhat bizarre. From Andrew Bird to Xiu Xiu to .50 Cent to Bright Eyes. The opening 6 songs are quite the punch.
Fake Palindromes - Andrew Bird
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins (look, I went through a whole rediscovering the Pumpkins phase last month)
Know Your Enemy - Rage Against the Machine
Hysteria - Muse
I Luv the Valley OH! - Xiu Xiu
Lost Cause - Beck
They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhh! - Sufjan Stevens
Never Let Me Down - Kanye West
Hate It or Love It - 50 Cent
Can't Get You Out of My Head - Kylie Minogue
Bum Like You - Robyn
Sitting, Waiting, Wishing - Jack Johnson
Wayfaring Stranger - Neko Case
Train Under Water - Bright Eyes
Soon Enough - The Constantines
I'm happiest with the connect 'tween Sufjan & Kanye. I think it works but I'm very open to critique. In my mixes I usually shoot for one of two things: an emotional consistency or a collection of great songs arranged in such a way to create a plausible audial journey (not necessarily thematically, stylistically, or emotionally consistent). The latter works in this situation since my goal is simply to give Joel a set of great songs. Hopefully a few will strike his fancy and he'll try to pickup the entire album.

I'm not sure how I feel about Kylie Minogue being on this list...then again, maybe that's the point.

I never put that much thought into making a mix (granted I don't make many mixes); but it's rather enspiring to have a "philosophy of mix-making" so to speak. Right On!

And that was supposed to be, "inspiring." Oops...

Illman/Josh,
Yes, I hate Jack Johnson too. But that one song, I very much like. And a couple people who's taste I respect dig him also. So I'm willing to admit that I might be wrong. Those two things == his inclusion on that mix.
Plus its for my 15 year old brother in law.

Ah yes, fifteen is an awkward age for any music aficionado. When I was fifteen I was really into The Pixies, Joy Division, The Clash, and Ministry, but I also still thought The Monkees were kinda cool.
