Gays At Covenant College

So this weekend I googled "Covenant College" and on the right in the "sponsored links" column I saw an ad for this.

While I'm somewhat certain that Equality Rider has dynamically created the "Letter to Gays at Covenant College" page, they certainly couldn't have *faked* the page detailing policies enforcing GBLT inequality at Covenant, including excerpts and links to the College's Student Handbook.

So what's teh big deal? Plenty of private schools have the same situation going on???

I find the attempted hijacking of the civil rights movement despicable. "Equality Ride" my ass.

What's wrong with the Covenant handbook? It's a private school. If you don't like their rules, don't go there! And it's not like they're singling out homosexuals. They very quite clearly state that ANY sexual activity not ordained by the Bible, such as masturbation, premarital sex, etc, is strictly prohibited and will be dealt with accordingly. Gay's aren't being oppressed at Covenant; immorality is.

I never said I didn't like Covenant's rules, that wasn't my point.

But Ryan, I think that's their point.

You guys can't masturbate at Covenant? Show me where the bible condemns that. And since when does Reformed theology mandate a "regulatory principle" of sexuality (ie, whatever's not commanded is forbidden).

Yeah, actually, I don't think you're right there Mays. The policy seems to say that what is expressly forbidden are things which violate biblical teachings. In other words, there is freedom to do those things which are not expressly laid out in Scripture. So, if one could masturbate, but not lust, then that is lawful. (Now whether that's possible is another matter altogether, but I do think it is possible in the context of marriage to do this, so long as the images considered are of one's spouse.)

Mesh, you really need to chime in here.

Posted by: JosiahQ at August 1, 2005 10:39 AM

It ought to read: "Students are also required to abstain from all activities which violate the random cherry-picked Biblical teachings we're choosing to enforce..."

"Equality Ride My Ass" would be a good name for a sexual practice.

Also, if all masturbation was criminal, all criminals would be holding guns.

That's all I've got right now. Must go write a newspaper.

If Mays is right, then my number of times breaking the Student Life policies just went up by like a bazillion.

I'm all for this kind of thing but it doesn't actually seem like this website has an interest in Covenant other than hounding them. If this was actually a person trying to get into Covenant and was experiencing "real world oppression" than that's different. I knew it!! Mesh writes the news.

Mesh is my hero, Equality ride my ass, brilliant.
