Why I Love Mesh

So it's Mesh's birthday on Sunday. A day that should become one of our high holidays, full of much revelry, wackinstance (a new word I just came up with, in honor of Mesh), and grain alchohol. For in the purest senses Mesh is a Man's Man. An athlete, a scholar, a lover of life, and damn good in an emotional pinch. Did I mention he's Jewish? Did I mention he was instrumental in my conversion to ethnic Judaism? That alone puts me forever in his debt.

Half-jokes aside, he's my best friend and the best damn writer I know. There's a number of very personal, emotional, and relational reasons why I love Mesh but I'm going to be selfish and keep those to myself. What I will do is offer up a few "Mesh-isms" that is, those wacky sometimes brilliant puns or word-plays for which he's so famous. I'll try to keep them limited to public things so you can read them yourself.

Anyways, I realized that after about 20 minutes into doing the research for this blog post that the problem wasn't finding the Mesh gems, it was that there was just so dang much. So, check the back archives of his blog and go to The Pulse's website and search by his name. Heck, you might even be able to find some early stuff at the Bagpipe website.

Here's what I've found so far:

"The Life You Watch May Be Your Own" from his review of the new David Gordon Green Movie.

"Soxual Healing
A sweet comedy that can't make a Bucky Dent in baseball lore"
From another one of his reviews.

"Party! Also, Organ Failure"

Mesh on Christmas
Mesh on Jude Law
"Nervous Writer Seeks Roommate for Long Walks on the Beach, Rent Money"

Mesh absolutely brilliant on the election and baseball.
And of course, The Red Sox.
More Funny
And "For Relaxing Times, Make It Yaegashi Time"

HAPPY (impending) BIRTHDAY, MESH!

According to Mesh's blog his birthday is on May 22nd, not the 20th. How well do you really know Mesh? Or do you know something about him that he doesn't know?

you try writing a blog post while running a company with no less than 2 dozen interruptions over the course of it's writing. Sometimes one get's confused.

Do Jews celebrate birthdays?

Tell the man I should be there for his birthday. But I can't.

Remember when Jade started calling him "Ernie"? "Why do you call him Ernie?" "He just looks like an Ernie."

My favorite Meshism -- please correct:

[First line-- can't remember]
And his principles might damn us,
But whatever you do
With Albert Camus
Please don't call him "Cam-uss"

There was also a neat couplet about Ed Silva.

Y'all are too kind.

My birthday celebration (by which I mean, as I usually do, drinking) is slated for 8 p.m. Sunday on the roof of the Pickle Barrel. If it is raining, we will regroup elsevwhere. You can call my cell phone, or Josiah's, for deatails. And if you don't know our numbers then, really, what are you doing at my birthday party?
