What's Wrong With the Quebecois?

Wasn't it kids from Quebec who did Aicha and "The Star Wars Kid"? Now this guy.

I've seen that before. And it never ceases to freak me out.

The guy's name is Gary Brolsma, and he's from New Jersey. The "Numa Numa" video made the rounds a few months ago.

Ryan, I'm not going to let you post on my blog anymore if you can't stop whining. Yes, I saw the Numa Numa video weeks ago, no I didn't mean to imply that you hadn't seen the video (heaven forbid). I also know there's a good many people who read my blog who haven't seen the video.

Of course I didn't know the guy's from new jersey. Strange. Isn't the numa numa song french or something?

I was not cool enough to have seen this before. Thank you Josiah for sharing the love. It made me happy inside and glad to be a human.

The song, for what it's worth, is called "Dragostea Din Tea." It's by a Romanian band called O-Zone. So the lyrics are Romanian, which is a close relative of Hungarian. Most of them are complete nonsense. I am sort of ashamed that I know all of this.

You're scaring me Mesh, I'm calling off the road trip.

Posted by: StelmoDad at May 16, 2005 8:38 PM

Mesh, if I'm not mistaken, Hungarian (Magyar) is actually NOT a close relative of Romanian. While the countries are neighbors, Magyar is a Uralic language--one of the few in Europe (Finnish, Estonian, etc.)--and Romanian is an Indo-European language heavily influenced by late antique Latin. Not that any of us would understand either one of them....

Okay Mesh, you seem saner now. Derek's the scary one now - he needs to finish that doctorate soon to put this obscure knowledge to use.

Posted by: StelmoDad at May 16, 2005 9:40 PM

ya geez Derek, the smart people blogs can be found at Yaleblogs or over at atlblogs.com/hoh
