The Chattablogs Executive Council: in other words, ELECTIONS!
There was a time I really enjoyed Chattablogs being "my" baby. There was a time it pretty much was, but now I don't even make the blogs anymore, Ron handles that. Mark does the design. Huffine handles most of the programming. I pretty much just oversee the whole thing and stay on top of the blacklist and random bugs here and there.
So I had the idea that we start something a little new, namely, that a Chattablogs executive council be formed, of five people. Call it like, the Chattablogs Parliament and I'm like the Queen or something, a symbolic figure or whatnot.
Basically it's going to work that people submit their nominations for who should be on this council in the comment section of the post. Nominations will go on for a couple of weeks. Then we'll have an election. The only people eligible to be ON the committee are people WITH blogs on Chattablogs. We'll make one exception in the case of Huffine who has a stagnant blog but does 99% of the programming.
The people allowed to vote on who makes it onto the committee must be chattablogs or regular chattabloggers readers who haven't been more or less banned (there's only one person on that list right now). To prove you're a regular reader we'll go back through a verify your e-mail address via previous comments etc. There's enough people that know people that we can make sure nobody illegitimate sneaks in. The technology is there not to worry about that. So basically only bloggers can be nominated/on the committee, and any regular chattablog reader can vote on who makes it.
The extent of their powers is that this committee will oversee disciplinary issues, will help with the blacklist, will oversee certain unique blog applications (like a former chattanoogan resident living in Germany), and pretty much work together to keep the peace. The general standards of "no porn no hate speech" still applies, so those are the general "rules of law" that applies, though there's some gray area leeway there for special circumstances.
I will be abdicating my role as chief chattablogs moderator once the committee is elected. I will also not "by default" be on the committee. To get on the committee I will have to be nominated and elected like everyone else. So yes, chances are I wont even be on the committee, and I'm just fine with that, I'll submit to their authority. That means even I can get censored. I do reserve the right though to dissolve the committee if they go completely loco and start requiring that everyone be Republicans or something nuts like that.
After the nominations the general elections will occur, with people picking out of the entire list the five they'd like to see on the committee. Right now that seems the best way to calculate the votes, though I'm sure I'll be receving a deluge of advice on what's the best electoral process. It's not going to be an electoral college based upon traffic, with Healy as California, Me as Texas, and Anthony Campbell as insane Idaho.
So, let the nominating commence. You've got two weeks to nominated who you think needs to be on the Chattablogs Executive Committee.

I nominate Josiah

It gives me great pleasure and honor to nominate Bill Colrus. As Editor of the Chattanooga Pulse, he would bring the CEC a great deal of experience and a journalist's common sense. He's also witty.

I nominate Priscilla Owen...bring it to a vote?
Oh wait, we're being serious? Oh okay, then, uh...I guess I should have transferred my (defunct) Covblog by now.
I'll just posit that there are five spots open on this Council, and there are five contributors to Dr. Doolittle's Room. Hmm? Hmmmmmmm?

I throw my support behind Josiah too.

I nominate Andy Montgomery, who is the most level-headed blogger I have ever seen, and a damn fine guy. I also nominate Joe Lance at the civic forum, who has the tightest, most unique blog within Chattablogs and could SERIOUSLY help. Ditto on the damn fine guy and blogger part, too.

I nominate James

Andy doesn't have a blog on chattablogs. Though I tell the guy at least once a week he needs to move over. Heck, it'd save him a ton of trouble dealing with the spam. And it's not like we couldn't just mirror loapher.com/blog with his blog on chattablogs. Oh well though.

So, if I don't get elected to the Jedi council does it mean that I don't have to do the programming any more?

Obviously, Tony Campbell.
