Little Geneva Racist House Church

wow, at the time of this post there's 191 comments on the little geneva racists getting schooled. It's been like watching a train wreck and shuttle launch all in one, and its overloaded my inbox with comment notifications.

Anyways, ol' Ron did a little digging and came across this post by Harry of little geneva talking about setting up a house church in Naples. Which fits with one of the conclusions of the rough psychological profile positing in the earlier post's comment section. Along those lines, I'd also conclude that there's maybe one or two families with a large number of children along with a handful of single people. There's probably one family that plays the central, authoritative role in the micro-society they've formed, perhaps even with a number of the groups members living on their property.

I'd also conclude that a significant number of their members are not Southern by birth, but feel an ideological association with it or perhaps claim their ancestors were Southern.

well it looks like you "won" since he took down his post and all. why, oh why, must we give him more press?

Posted by: bobw at May 5, 2005 9:46 AM

"won"? Bob I think you're under the mistaken impression that I have some kindof enormous emotional investment in the situation and that I want to "win". I don't even know what "winning" would look like. I do find the whole thing fascinating.

Posted by: JosiahQ at May 5, 2005 9:53 AM

no I'm not under that impression, but I do remember someone referring to all this mess as a full-scale blog war, hence the term "won" which is "quoted" to indicate that I was being somewhat "silly." sigh. sometimes this medium sucks.

I guess I find the whole thing more repulsive than fascinating, and I do believe that theys guys get off on all the attention, which they're getting more and more of.

J - If you look at the satelite photo it appears that dude lives near a farm, maybe even a compound of some sort which would support your theories.

I hope they don't have an rat poison flavored koolaid.

well, they probably don't since koolaid is what my brothers like to drink in the hood.

bob - somone on bad's site refered it to that and I succinctly corrected him.

My brother-in-law, who I briefly referenced in a post yesterday (www.christcentralchurch.com), reminded me of these words from Paul to Titus. I think they speak with just as much affirmation to us.

"But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned."

Grace and Peace be with us all.

That thread should be saved for our beautiful posterity -- whatever their skin color. Amazing. Severely troubling.

And I echo Bobw's sentiment -- sometimes this medium sucks. But I wonder if this is really about the medium . . .

Posted by: paul at May 5, 2005 1:26 PM

Speaking of the "medium," one of my elders once told me that the internet tends to bring out the worst in people. This conversation certainly lends credence to that notion.

Scott Kennedy had a pretty interesting post a while back about how discussions on blogs are more like professional wrestling. Well, at least I thought it was interesting.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, Josiah (and everyone)! It's a lovely day for appreciating cultural diversity here in Cali. And it reminds us to thank the Lord for good tequila, margaritas, carne asada, pinatas (no chidhood is complete without taking at least one swing at one), fajitas, carnitas, Senor Cook (remembering our days in his spanish class never fails to make me laugh), salsa, chihuahuahs (ok, maybe not chihuahuahs, no offense to Durden, may he rest in peace), afternoon siestas, taco trucks, fiestas, inexpensive drugs that aren't FDA approved, Sabado Gigante (Saturday cartoons on acid) and all the other wonderful things that have come to us from south of the border.

The sad thing is, while these folks proudly proclaim their bigotry, for every person who does so, there are dozens more who belive the same way but would never come out and admit it except when they're in an environment where they think everybody agrees with them.

What comes to mind immediately is a discussion some years ago that we had with some family friends who my parents had invited over to dinner. The woman said to my mom, "so Gail, have you changed your opinion on interracial marriage now that you know so and so?" ("so and so" being an interracial family that my sister and I babysat for). My mom's response: "why would my opinion change, I never thought it was wrong." At that point, pretty much all hell broke loose, with the man insisting that it was unbiblical, that Moses was a special dispensation, that it was obvious that people aren't supposed to marry out of their race because white people aren't attracted to black people and those who say that they are attracted are just rebelling against their parents, that Whitney Houston is only attractive because "she has a lot of white in her," and all in all, what went down was not a pretty sight. And, the thing is, we would never have known that those people felt that way except that they assumed that we believed the way they did.

Or then there is the (heavily Dutch Reformed) Christian school in my town, where they love black people as long as they are playing on the basketball team or are famous and willing to speak at school fundraisers (last year, J.C. Watts, this year Tony Dungy), but they aren't nearly so tolerant when wealthy upstanding white girl decides to go to the prom with black boy from basketball team. A girl from my church created a minor schoolwide controversy by going to prom with one of her older sister's friends, a guy who despite being one of the big jocks on campus had been unable to get a date. Some of us from church were at a movie and ran into kids from the school, one of whom told her "My dad thought you of all people would know better than to do this."

It's not just people who call themselves reformed and who have little house churches in the middle of nowhere who are racists, it's also people who call themselves reformed who are considered pillars of their community and who send their children to a school that is so Reformed that VanTil's grandson coaches the girls basketball team who are racist. They just do a good job of hiding it. (And, to clarify, I'm not lumping Van Til's grandson in with them, I only mentioned him to show just how Reformed the place is).

First, I'd like to say that I knew the PCA had problems, but I simply can't believe that it's degenerated to the degree that, by the dozen, Covenant seems to be churning out foul-mouthed, intellectually slothful, demagogues who give the impression of being cast straight out of the Al Sharpton mold, spouting Leftist egalitarian propaganda, denying their Christianity and consigning Christian brothers to the fiery depths of Hell on the basis of unproven charges that they hold un-biblical views on race and race relations.

You want to talk about shameful; that's it. You people (you know who you are) should be more than ashamed. You should be down on your knees in tears, begging for forgiveness.

I think white people are a great historical evil, and God has hardened the hearts of the West, and will pass His glory onto Africa and Asia. The sooner this happens the better!

Part of being a Christian is leanring not to be proud of one's flesh. Little Geneva was carnal and vain. I'm glad it's gone. It was a blot on white people. I'm also think the best thing that God can give Western Christians is learning to live without looking at the world through race. There must be something unusual about white civilization, going even further back than Hitler that makes it so prejudiced?

Anyway, pray for the day we will be a color-blind society, and the day when whites are willing to marry and live together with other races. Racism is probably the greatest evil of the 20th century!

God bless ,
Jeff
