Websites That Suck

man...this is the kind of crap talking you do orally, not in an incriminating way. hopefully potential clients won't get word that you enjoy bashing other people's web sites and then print this off for proof. but then again, maybe they won't care.

just seems kind of silly. but then again, i don't own my own business.

Aren't blogs supposed to be the place where you rant & rave according to your own agenda? I would think that anyone interested in doing business with Josiah, would not turn to his blog to see what his company thinks. If they wanted to see what his company thinks, they should look at the company website.

I can attest -- I actually know someone who works at Chattanooga Websites -- that many of the companies that have websites through the firm are too busy making money to care about what their websites look like. Probably not a smart approach, but it seems to be working for at least a handful of them nonetheless.

They remind me of a company called Smokey Webs that was based out Knoxville that captured some significant marketshare back here in the mid-late 90's. It will eventually help all of our business' in the long run - because eventually folks want to migrate past the 3-7 page site with two picture and a link...

Back in the day, when I was doing web work as the millennia rounded the corner, my old web shop (http://www.pendergraphics.com) in Oklahoma dealt with clients like these. Basically, like Bill said, they were too busy making money to bother with anything. It was just that a friend/sister/cousin/mom/yak told them about the "Internet", and from that "having a web site" became a low-grade priority. They wanted to throw a few hundred dollars into a magic bucket and watch an "internet page" materialize.

We were always frustrated that we could never pin those clients down long enough to give them something worthwhile. They were frustrated that it wasn't easy/quick/painless to do something decent.

I don't miss a few of those days. Like the client that made sterling silver maternity bracelets in case a poor preggers woman was knocked unconscious and received emergency medical care. Presumably the EMTs would see the glint of that wretched pendant in the shape of a fetus and treat her as appropriate to her state. It also had space on the back for the unborn babies’ name. And they made a lot of money, and had a silly, silly web site with verbiage like "For your safety, and for the baby: MaternAlertPendent".

point taken, kposey. i guess that's why i should avoid the world of blog... which i've done pretty well until recently. i like reading them and giving my opinions on what i read. obviously i don't have a lot of original content as you'll see from my neglected blog.

The graphic is sad but worse than that is they misspelled Tennessee. How sad is that?

Dan Baker, owner of Chattanooga Websites, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007. Dan was a person that was striving to do his best even though the results were usually not very cutting edge or even considered "good" design.

At his core he was not the person who was ever going to do that. He was a person that loved his wife, his children and his grandchildren with all he could give.

Even though he didn't teach me anything about design SEO,or proper site build or any of that "stuff" we deal with on a day to day basis. He did show me that it is okay to be a nice guy and not always be so critical of others even if they are being critical of you. He was always a good friend to me.

He will be missed.
