The Flu + A Root Canal = Out-Of-Sorts Josiah

No, I don't like referring to myself in the third person, even in my blog titles. Call it the product of the aforementioned flu + root canal and the fact half my face is numb. I'm rather hungry too. I didn't eat dinner last night 'cause the flu sapped my appetite (yes, its possible). No breakfast 'cause you can't eat before a root canal, and no lunch 'cause you certainly can't eat immediately after one either. So my diet for the last 18 hours has consistented solely of grapefruit juice, diet coke, and amoxicillin.

And yes, I really do plan on giving Choltie my free iPod Shuffle.

I have a super-power I believe. Yesterday Julian and I got in a 30 minute conversationa bout Hunter S. Thompson. I wake up this morning to find out he committed suicide. I think said "power" is limited to conversations with Julian, so until further notice I'm not having any more conservations with Julian about any other people. No word on whether or not Tom Wolfe is still alive. I'll keep you posted.

Its cynical I suppose, but now I wonder what the faux-hipster/intellectuals out there are going to do now that 1/2 of their canon is now closed? Vonnegut is 83 and can't be long for this earth. Who will step up and fill the void? Millions of sorta-counter cultural types have their assumingly priviledged narratives in need of affirmation. Is there a chosen scion?

Actually Choltie, I've already got one completed referral, so I only need two more. If you were to do one, then I'd only need one more, which would be very easy to get.

Dude -- switch to cranberry juice! Haven't you heard about what taking grapefruit juice with your meds will do to them? Hmm. Maybe you HAVE heard.

We just need to be more careful in choosing the topics of our conversation - although I think Hunter wasn't bad for a start, his best stuff was long behind him. John Kerry? Osama? Toni Morrison? Actually, Vonnegut's kind of been annoying me for the last while too . . .

Keep your eye on Dave Eggers.

yeah, Dave Eggars and all his Mcsweeneys cohorts. Also Adam Voith.

I'll also vote for Dave Eggers. It's nice to see a hipster voice who is more sober and less cynical.

Eggers, Schmeggers -- he's too damn pleased with himself. Give me Tom Bissell anyday. I'd be fascinated to see what Chuck Klosterman could do with political writing, also.

For awhile I couldn't figure out why the heck people were responding to this post, and then I realized: I meant my question about "what will faux-hipsters..." to be a rhetorical one. But hey, have at it.
