Obligatory College Football Post

Since last saturday I've been walking around with a slight adrenaline high. I've been humming "Hail to the Victors" to myself all week, and it sits as my number one played song on iTunes this week. The temperature has dropped & the wind is picking up. Its football time and I couldn't be happier.

This weekend Michigan starts its season with an opener against Miami of Ohio. I think Michigan has a shot at a NC this year. Yes yes, I know thats insane, what with the giants of Oklahoma (crap schedule), LSU, and USC also banging down the NC door. But I'm an optimist, and Michigan has two incredible things going for it: the hands-down best receiving corp in Edwards, Breaston, and Avant & an arguably best defense (in that LSU may be better) with passing-game destroyers like thankfully-back-to-cornerback Marlin Jackson.

But there are two things, two very big "ifs" in Michigan football this year. The first is QB Guitierrez, and whether or not Underwood n' co. can put together a solid running game. Chris Perry after all was a heisman-contender threat that allowed Michigan's receivers to be so dominant. I have faith in Guiterrez; I never trusted Navarre who was too slow, far too often inaccurate, and made his receivers work too hard with is high-throws (though it made for a great highlight reel). Guiterrez never last a game in highschool, and performed competently in his few appearances these last couple of years. But its the big time now and I hope and he delivers. He's certainly got the receiving corp & o-line to back him up.

So that leaves the running game. Its Big-10 footballm, and you simply cannot win a conference title without a running game. Remember, Ohio State had Maurice Clarett, then last year Michigan turned it around with Chris Perry. So Underwood has got to step up.

So, all that to say, I'm positively going nuts about this college football season. A friend of mine has hooked me up with Skybox seats for the Georgia-LSU or Georgia-Tennessee game depending on what I pick, so I'm really excited about my first SEC football game. And Michigan, well, if it was a sure thing it wouldn't be that much fun. Its the "ifs" that make it so interesting to watch anyways.

I've said it each of the last two seasons, and hopefully some team will pull an "upset" early this year so I can stop saying it... OKLAHOMA IS OVERRATED.

That's my obligatory college football comment.

Other than that, all I have to say is "WAR EAGLE!" and "Cadlliac for Heisman!"

Scott, haven't gotten my iPod yet. Still waiting for a few of the referrals to go through. A couple folks said they've signup and completed orders, but that its gonna take a few days, maybe even a week, for me to get credit. So I'm still sitting on 3 signups.

Hi Guys. I recognize a lot of your names. I played poker with a couple of you over at Isaac's house (got a lucky ace-high straight and won a lot of money). Just wanted to say hey and see how everyone is. Also, Scott Cunningham . . . we hung out on RYM. I may be breaking protocol by writing greetings as a comment to a college football article (Go MSU Bulldogs, btw) . . . Check out my blog if you want. Don't expect it to be funny, just strange and unusual.

Good blog!

all i can say is forget about Big-10 football,
if the dream that I had last night was not really a dream but a psychic vision, then I will say that Georgia will destroy all competition- as should be.
