New Flaming Lips EP

Ye Ole Flaming Lips have got a new EP out, their first since Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Pitchforkmedia has a pretty good review of it here. It's called Fight Test EP.

I, um, managed to snag a copy of the EP, and it's decent. I know I've earned the ire of some of my friends for not thinking the Lips are the greatest thing since They Might Be Giants (heck, I don't really like them either), but I've gotta just come out and say that the EP is decent. Nothing to get a tattoo over, but a fun spin nonetheless.

Andy still has yet to convinced me of the genius of the Lips or They Might Be Giants. I think he just a sucker for kiddie nintendo music with guitars.

The only They Might Be Giants song I've ever heard is a bedtime song. "I've brushed my teeth blah blah blah." Absolutely hilarious. I want to play it for my kids when they go to sleep. But I never would have conjectured (from either the group name OR the song) that the band was "genius." Perhaps I'm just uncultured...

My personal favorite has always been "Particle Man". One of the first non-classical pieces I knew.

So what is genius?

(I can just picture Dr. Dennison say "GENIUS!")
