Awesomely Bad Pop Music: Bon Jovi "Bed of Roses"

"With an ironclad fist I wake up and french kiss the morning"

There's a spectrum in Northeast/Jersey/NEPA rock n' roll, starting with the fantastic Bruce Springsteen, passing through Billy Joel, pausing with the Keith-Richards-pantomiming Aerosmith, and the finally finding neverending undead existence in the acid-wash demon spawn known as "Bon Jovi".

If you're unconvinced of Bon Jovi's status as ultimate cultural detritus, you need only visit any number of towns in Eastern Pennsylvania or New Jersey or western Massachusetts. Right now, on a Wednesday night in November, there is a group of kids loitering in front of a convenience market listening to Bon Jovi on a stereo.

No other band so effectively gives existential merit, self-worth, and inspiration to this most least deserving of demographics, and for that, (and for ushering in my freshman year of High School), I give you Bon Jovi's "Bed of Roses".

Don't forget to listen to END OF DAYS at PRARADIO, the best radio show playing right now, ever. Wednesdays, 6-8 PST.

"I want to be just as close as the Holy Ghost is..."

Thats profound. Bon Jovi was a theologian.

That was a great pick. I kind of wish your last entry though had been Roxette's "Fading Like a Flower" rather than "Listen to your Heart." But either way, Im looking forward to you continuing this series. Its inspiring.

Also, dont forget that this is the one time where Christians were keeping up with the competition. For instance:

have to agree with the really bad music choice. however, Aerosmith is not from PA. (not that they are good either, just not from PA).
Oh and don't drag Western Mass into this demographic.

You can find him even further away than the Northeast. I once saw a high school freshman from Seoul, South Korea spontaneously burst into "It's My Life," complete with head banging, at the mere mention of Bon Jovi. This was only a few years ago.
