Southside Road Changes, The End of An Era

One of the joys of your first visit to any area south of I-24 in Chattanooga, or, giving directions to someone visiting the same area for the first time, was helping them navigate the bizarre one-way mess of the I-24 & "Lookout Mountain / Broad Street" off-ramp region. Or, depending on whether you were going East or West, it was also the Market Street exit.

Whatever their bizarre 1960's sprawl-ish reasons for organizing the streets as such, the City is making some changes (hopefully ones that will make the area a bit more sane). The following one-way streets will be converted to two-way: W 26th Street between Broad & Long Street, Long & Williams Street between W 26th & W 25th, and W 25th Street between Broad & Williams.

See the highlighted streets below (gosh I love Google):

I don't know how long it took me to get used to that maze, which I've not gone through often. It's embarrassingly recently that I have even the notion of which way to go. And I'm a fairly good navigator.
