Stump Jump

I was meaning to blog about this last week, the Rock Creek annual Stumpjump race. The race is absolutely crazy. It's a 50K race through the woods. Up mountains. Down mountains. With little more than a dirt trail as your guide.
There are Aid Stations at various waypoints, along with vehicles to drive folks back to the start (which happens quite frequently). I think the fastest the race was ever done was right around 4 hours. The course follows a good bit of the Cumberland Trail and the Tennessee River Gorge. It also goes through part of the Prentice Cooper State Forest.
A map with the elevation change can be found here.
And even if you don't plan on participating in the race itself, there's always the German Beer Girls and 70's Disco Kings.

Okay I just saw this post. I have to say the best part about dressing up was meeting Alison at 5AM at City Cafe (Diner, Restaurant)- we certainly got some looks. I think most people thought we were still up from the night before.
Little did they know we were on our way to a trail running event...
