Subject shift:
If this letter proves anything, its that what oppenents of the Downtown Rennaisance/Development really don't like is the loss of their homogeneity. Unless, of course, its "...a shoe shine boy near the corner of Market Street."
What I'd like to understand is why a significant portion of the African-American community partnered with this "good ol' boy" group? I fail to see how anything would come out of it other than the status quo (a bad thing). What other socio-economic or cultural advantages were there?
I'm not asking those questions rhetorically either. I'm still largely ignorant of most things in Chattanooga politics, but regardless I can't shake that there's something either really scary or really important (likely both) in the answering of those questions.
