It's My Mother Who Made Me The Seventh Son
Few things:
Ed I woulda hit you with a comment but (ironically) they don't seem to be enabled. Regardless, comments should be on, I'm not sure what the mixup was. My apologies.
Its way over the line, but oh so funny. The Muslim Man Complaint Box.
Personally, I'm very comfortably in a society that allows for (and defends in principle) the worst kind of deviate and "perverted" speech. We can practically speaking manage our exposure to whatever offends (reasonably speaking). I find the alternative, regardless of whether the set of mores protected are my own, anathema.
I'm not a Right-Wing Christian America type. At all. But if there's one place where I think the Founding Fathers got it close to how (I think) God wants it to go, it was in the First Amendment. A world where Job couldn't ask the question, or Peter couldn't deny (or repent), where offense isn't given isn't at all like the one Jesus seemed to walk in and implicitly affirm.
I'm rather dissapointed with both the current Administration and "the Media" and their complete lack of spine. The unwillingness of both to unabashadly affirm the First Amendment and to simply leave at that is alarming. The offending cartoons in their own right are newsworthy because of international uproar that has occured. To run them now would not be a statement of political import in terms of the message contained within the cartoons themselves. Their publication would be an affirmation of our fundamental rights as Americans, and that's not something I think we should abdicate just yet.
Back to work...
