How 'bout that ridiculously useless sidewalk?
Kinda makes me sick to my stomach.

What's wrong with sidewalks? I wish my neighborhood had sidewalks too. But then that would mean people could actually walk places, and heaven forbid getting any exercise in the south...

What's the better solution? Have them all move into our neighborhoods? Or better yet, they could move into the 'poor' neighborhoods, fix up the houses raise the housing rates, and get rid of, well, all the poor.

I think you're presenting a false dilemma, Sember. Suburban housing is not intrinsically unsatisfying or anthetical to community. The question is what kind of housing you want to erect. Urban planners have, for a decade, eagerly designed civic centers for outlying neighborhoods. Suburban housing can become communal -- even aesthetically appealing -- with a bit of care. (See the much-malligned Celebration 'hood near Orlando for a strong example.) It's this slapdash constuction that is so unappetizing. People need not move into "our" neighborhoods to live in fulfilling ones.

Urban sprawl will continue because people will continue to have tastes (while bad and perhaps detrimental in my opinion) that demand neighborhoods that look and work that way.
While segments of America might adopt more stringent urban planning models, it seems we will always have a large contingency that will avoid areas of such control and build how they see fit.
Also, let me reiterate how much I like sidewalks :)

It seems silly to be annoyed by a picture. Yes, it's real, but it isn't a reality to any of us. So I can't see that the actuality of it makes you "sick to your stomach". Is it just the idea of it?
There are a lot of things that I dislike. Like Krystal burgers. So I just don't think about them, and let the people who want to eat them go do it in peace.
