Oh How I Meant No Harm

I'm trying to decide what my favorite Sufjan song is, which is a stupid thing to do for a number of reasons, but regardless, I'm up for it.

Right now I'm 'caught between "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us" off Illinois or "For The Widows In Paradise, For The Fatherless in Ypsilanti" off of "Greetings From Michigan: The Great Lakes State".

His redo of "Lo How A Rose E'er Blooming" is in that fight somewhere.

And well, Romulus, Casimir Pulaski Day, the cover of Amazing Grace, and They Are The Night Zombies!, well they're all great too.

I've heard rumors that hipsters in NYC consider Sufjan like, "so last year" or something. I pity them. I still love Sufjan along with The Hold Steady & Clap Your Hands Say Ya!

I prefer Ypsilanti off Michigan b/t those two songs.

"Palisades" is definitely my favorite song of his. I nearly cried when I saw him play that live.

PS. New York City hipsters can blow me. Chicago hipsters represent!

That seems to be the trend, here in NYC. The hipsters here seem "fans" of a band until they make it big. I think it's the "I saw them first" complex.

Of the two, I'd pick "Palisades," but it's not easy to pick an absolute fave. I love "To Be Alone with You" and his 50 States song is infectious. I should stop before I let myself get started...

For me, right now at this moment, it's "Vito's Ordination Song (Acoustic Version)", but that's liable to change next week. I love so many of his songs.

For me it's "Come on Let's Boogie to the Elf Dance".

That line: "Get off the floor and give a shout, there's a lot to shout about" - for a long time I thought it said "There's a lot to shower about" (as in, take a shower) which I thought was pretty genius and probably will steal for one of my own songs some day, but alas, it was "shout."

Anyway, the song is just really good. I also like his "The Friendly Beasts." And I still like The Smths, so New York Hipsters can go get bent.

There is something about "Palisades" that really makes it an awesome song. I think, if I were to put a finger on it, it would have to be the trumpet part in the middle of the song. Overall, my favorite Sufjan song.

Man, Jon, I forgot about his Christmas stuff. Brilliant work.

I like "More Than a Feeling."

Hey...just wanted to say thanks for posting the Hark! Songs for Christmas download. You've probably heard it already, but if not, you should check out the Iron and Wine/Calexico EP.
