Deliverance Rally or I Consider Atlanta Owned

I'm very tired. And sunburnt to a crisp.

So there was this Rally in Atlanta. We decided to drive down. One of these guys came with us. I think it was him.

8 scooters, 7 riders, 1 motorcycle license, 1 car + trailer, and 1 cop in Tunnel Hill with a chip on his shoulder. So Dave (w/ antlers) get harassed and tosses his scooter on the trailer. We keep heading down Highway 41. An hour later the bike comes off the trailer and Dave is on the road again. 4 and 1/2 hours later we make it to Thinking Man in Decatur.

So we drank. Then rode. Krispy Kreme was taken over. More scoots than I could count. Free donuts everywhere. Important questions were asked. Answer: '64 GS. More drinking.

Morning. Grub. Gas. Ride. Goofin' around at a fun park. More ride. Pig. Things of import were represented in places. Races occured. Slow ones. Stan won. The Gymkhana too. The Vietnamese family ride lived up to its name. Awards were given.

Hill City United won for best club participation.

Then beer, sleep, breakfast in Grant Park, then 3 hours drive back with Raul & Steve.

Hey Josiah, I like that you have a scooter. I wanted one myself, but up here they are like Mosquitos in Chattanooga, i.e., everywhere. So I don't know if I want to fit in as much as it would make me. You're lucky you're in Chattanooga, just the right amount of cool and the normal.

I'm sorry I realize i'm not the coolest guy in the world, but this is kind of sad. I realize you'll mock me for a million things in retaliation, as you should, but this is just sort of sad, however painfully funny.

Josiah, you are a scooter demi-god!! I rode with Josiah...he's got mad skillz!!

Holton, don't be a weeny. Get a scooter. The chicks will crawl all over you. It's easy to mock in jealousy, I know...it happens to all of us from time to time. Ease the jealosy. Go to your local scooter shop and drop dime. You'll thank us later when the ladies are chasing you through town like a pack of wild dogs chasing a mailman with a flank steak stapled to his ass.

Deliverance R-O-C-K-E-D!!! Who's with me!?!?!

You know I'm with you. It was amazing. Absolutely amazing. I think it goes in my top 10 most fun times ever.

I can't wait for the B-Ham rally. Looks like they've got some pretty sweet stuff planned. Mebbe by that point I'll be able to get my new green lights.

Posted by: JosiahQ at September 19, 2005 09:02 PM

Once Stan gets my Stella fixed, he's putting orange lights on mine. I'm thinking about dropping a bunch of accessories like the engine and tire covers. I may go nuts with the mods!!

Posted by: stevaker at September 19, 2005 09:09 PM

I'm definitely taking off the tire cover. I dig the spare showing through instead of that grey plastic crap.

What I need to do is bug some of my artistic friends (*cough* you *cough* mark) on what colors work well with the green. I'm not committed to going with black+chrome for my decal work.

My goal is to mebbe score best curry next year. I don't think I've got the energy/$$ for best street racer. Plus I didn't like hearing what Steve said 'bout needing to bore out the cylinder enough to handle long rides.

I will probably score the Sito exhaust. I like the extra horse it gave Raul's bike, if I feel like dropping the extra $30 I may go for the Polini. I'm still not sure what exhausts/pipes can go with the Stella engine, but 'cause I'm a slightly bigger guy, I feel like a little extra pep is worth it. I got annoyed at the little bit o' extra that you guys always seemed to have over me on the ride back.

So... so sad...

Chrome Center hubcaps instead of the black plastic ones that come with the stellas. carb, exhaust, cylinder kit
you'll be set like a mother fo!!!!

A few questions re scooters:

1.) How did you decide on the Stella? (say vs. Aprilia or Vespa)

2.) When is the 'Ham rally, or is it over?

3.) I am a fat guy, does that work on a scooter?

4.) If I get a scooter, do I have to stop listening to The Postal Service?

Posted by: gonnagettascooter at October 2, 2005 01:18 PM

So ahhhh...no help w/ scooter advice?

Posted by: ggs at October 2, 2005 05:01 PM

Sorry,

I decided on the Stella because I like the vintage styling and the simplicity of its engineering. In many ways it's a lawnmower (albeit a powerful lawnmower) on two wheels. The new vespas and aprilia's are far more complicated, have lots of plastic, and are in general harder to maintain.

Go to birminghamscootersyndicate.com to read about the b-ham rally. It's not until november.

Fat guys on scooters are funny. That's why I drive one.

You can keep listening to the postal service. in fact, I love riding and listening to my ipod.

Posted by: JosiahQ at October 2, 2005 05:14 PM

I guess I am a bit hesitant re: the stella, cause it is assembled in India & no long history etc... But on the other hand people who own them seem to love them. And the Vespa is a lot more $$. Tough call.

DO the southern drivers give you a break, or are you fighting for your life the entire time?

Posted by: ggs at October 2, 2005 06:08 PM

ya, with the Stella there's definitely a "break in" period for the first 1K miles. Which is why its great it's got a 1 year warranty. You'll work out most of the little kinks. Mine runs smooth as anything now, and no problems at all. I havent heard of any big problems with the stellas, at all, which is why I was down with getting one.

Posted by: JosiahQ at October 2, 2005 07:10 PM

I don't have a stella dealer nearby, so there's that...hmmm..."what a predicament."

I def. don't want a honda...

Posted by: ggs at October 2, 2005 10:32 PM

Sorry to "take-over" your site, but I am: 1.) getting a scooter and 2.) obsessive-compulsive.

I found this: http://www.provoscooter.com/px150/index.htm

Some good info.
