Best Football Movie?
Since Dave wants more football posts:
What's the best football movie ever? My vote is for Friday Night Lights. Here's my top five:
Friday Night Lights
Rudy
The Replacements (thank you Bob DeMarco)
Varsity Blues
Remember The Titans

Oooh. Now we're talking... Okay, ND fan aside, Rudy was a classic, but not a particularly insightful football movie. It did play well to the desire one has to be part of a tradition bigger than yourself. Irish or not.
The Replacements, though base in many ways, was a fun film and I'd watch it any late night on TNT. Go Shane Falco!
Can't comment yet on FNL, but it's on the tivo and I should get around to it soon.
Remember the Titans. Great on many many levels AND and good football movie.
Radio, although more a social study, still a good football movie.
Varsity Blues? Sorry, I missed that one.

I really liked Remember the Titans, and Rudy - although I'm loathe to admit it, for some reason.
J, I just sent you an email at info@terrablogs.com, since I couldn't remember your actual address.

I really didnt like Friday Night Lights, but maybe I need to rewatch it. Varsity Blues was filmed in the town I grew up in, but I've never seen it. Rudy freakin rocks. But what about the original Longest Yard?

Jerry Maguire!

I might be wrong, but I think you had this same discussion on your blog last year. and, Rudy.

1 - The Longest Yard (original)
2 - Rudy
3 - Jerry Maguire
4 - North Dallas Forty (You under 30's should rent this movie.)
5 - Brian's Song
(And I'll also admit that "The Replacements" is strangely entertaining. Maybe it John Madden's delivery of such great lines as "Falco looks like he thinks he's actually gonna play!")

The Longest Yard was kind of boring, maybe for some old schoolers it was cool but I went back to it and frankly failed to see why it was so good. I mean Smokey the Bandit is the same guy in almost every movie.
My Top 5
Rudy (Its the best, makes you want to be Sean Astin or Samwise Gamgee.)
Any Given Sunday (I don't think any movie has captured the NFL better, granted its a view of the NFL that might be wrong, elaborated, and distorted but its raw and Pacino is amazing in that movie. Diaz does a good job of beeing a beotch too. Plus Willy Beamen, leaves the ladies Creamin and all the guys Steamin)
Friday Night Lights (Its real, its good)
Radio (I cried and frankly if a movie makes me cry i deem it good... or emotionally manipulative, in this case both)
Remember the Titans (Which might be the same as Radio just without a mentally handicapped person in it)
And the rest I don't deem that good to be associated with these.
Jerry Maguire I don't see as a football movie, no i actually view it as every tom cruise movie to date. Pretty much its Days of Thunder, Top Gun, and all his others only with more sap and sugar for the ladies. But seriously there's hardly any football in that movie.
Waterboy I could consider to be up there, but I figured I'd keep the comedies out and focus on the sports movies that are trying to be sports movies.
Brian's Song (I've never seen this one, but have heard its possibly one of the best football movies ever. So it should be up there)

Come on....The Last Boyscout!

You're forgetting Black Sunday. Come on, people! Terrorists attacking the Super Bowl in a zeppelin: what could be more engrossing?

I would definitely take the original version of The Longest Yard, or even The Waterboy, over The Replacements. But I'm afraid the only other film on your list that I've seen is Friday Night Lights.

One I forgot, and haven't seen, but here is good the Program... its got CAAAAAAAAAAN In it so it might not be bad.

1. Rudy
2. the 1st; The Longest Yard
3. Remember the Titans
4. Any Given Sunday.

Any Given sunday had to make it on here, "if Al Pacino's speech before the first playoff game does not raise the hair on your neck and make a not in your stomach you are not a football fan.
