Hurricane Katrina Bloggers
I've been following Katrina with some trepidation for a couple weeks now. After reading James' blog on NOLAblogs I realized I should go digging for some other New Orleans bloggers.
Here's the best of what I've found. They're stunning.
BloodOrchid talks about evacuating to Texas and her famlies experience during Camille and Betsy. Check out her story about why folks in Southeast, Louisiana keep axes in their attics.
Unapologetic blogs on the road and offers some of the 100K people without transportation a ride.
sturtle manages to be downright hilarious with his narrative of Katrina's, um, romance. Seriously, this guy is hilarious. Read his take on Hurricane Dennis.
the subconcious machine runs a bar in New Orleans and promises to remain open till the beer gets warm.

I have been following the reporters in the hurricane bunker at the Times-Pic building, where they are reporting what the police scanners are saying and damage to their own building

I went out to the beach in Destin today. We didn't get hit nearly as hard as New Orleans, obviously, but our beaches took another hit (Ivan started it, now every time a tropical storm comes our way our beaches disappear, along with the foundations of several of the beach homes). The wind was blowing so hard we couldn't stand straight. A lot of sand in the eyes also. Not sure what we would've done had it hit us directly.

Trying to contact son Darin who lives in Niceville, FL and is manager of Destin Commons Shopping Mall.

Mr. Grigg, I'm sure you'll hear from your son soon. He may have evacuated, but Destin actually fared well. Destin Commons is already open again.

I have family in Laurel, MS. I finally spoke with my father in Laurel. There is a lot of damage, however crews from TX are trying to get power back, he did not lose water service at his home, I don't how wide spread water loss is. Sanderson Farms, Howards and Masonite are partially up and running. Wal-Mart is trying to open. The Red Cross is there serving meals. Electricty is being restored in parts.
Hope this helps.

I wanted to talk about all teh city officicla in New Orleans who are whinning about how there is too little help too late.... they should look in the mirror when they say that. It seesm to me that they are the ones that were totally unprepared for what has occured. They know their city and their people better than anyone else and they should have expected exactly what has happened. The flooding, the looting, the crime ... murder, rape, etc. That's New Orleans! Shame on them... quit whinning and take the balme for what is theire fault anyway.

I would like to hear more about the violence in the Superdome, and Covention Center. I hear there were mumerous rapes, fights, and racial tensions. Is that correct? Will the public get an estimate of the the violence? Will there be an investation? I hope so.

Peace to all you out there. Here's some advice on insurance claims. 1. File a class action suit. 2. Find a contractor and get CURRENT estimates for your area. 3. If you are an older woman with an accent. Prepare to be discriminated. 4. This process will take 3 years min. Continue your life, find anywhere to live, and please don't despair. If you follow these steps it'll work out!!!
