Sometimes The NCAA Is Downright Fruitloopy
I make no bones about Georgia being my number 2 football team behind Michigan. In an alternate universe, they'd be number one, and I'm doing my best to convince April to birth any children we might have in Georgia, and not Tennessee (which is far more feasible than travelling 10 hours north to Michigan).
You can't beat Georgia fans for things like this. The story goes: UGA is playing Boise State opening day. Some UGA fans hear about the father of a Boise State player who is currently serving in Iraq. These Georgia fans decide to raise the couple thousand dollars to fly the father home from Iraq so he can see his son play D-1 football 'gainst Georgia.
The NCAA finds out about it, and check this, put a stop to it because it would be violating the NCAA's bylaws. In effect, these Bulldog fans would be functioning as boosters for Boise State, so its a no-go. Amazing.
Sometimes rules are meant to be broken.

And what's with objecting to the "Fighting Illini"?

did you catch the whole FSU thing? I can't find the link right now but it said that FSU was ready to take the NCAA to court over the whole mascot thing.

Totally unrelated and a little late, but fyi - Iowa will win the Big 10 this year.

Iowa's got no running game and O-line. It's all on Drew Tate's shoulders.
Though I do think it will come down to the Iowa-Michigan game AT Iowa. What a game that will be. I still give Michigan the slight edge in that game (better offense all around, stronger d-line), but it'll be a nail biter.
U should come by the manpad and watch.

I'd love to be there, though I live in DC. I was at the Big House last year for the Iowa game - ah!
Anyway, you may be right about the running game, and the O-line is depleted, but Ferentz specializes in the O-line so we'll see.
Still, three advantages for Iowa: Ferentz (perhaps the best coach in the game), Kinnick Stadium, and the fact that Iowa under Ferentz always gets better as the season progresses. But, you're right, it will be a nail-biter, and it could come down to that game. Of course, all the Iowa-Michigan-Ohio State matchups are huge, but watch out for one that may determine the Big 10: Iowa-Purdue (since Purdue doesn't play UM or OSU).
Also, did you see ESPN ranked the Big 10 the #1 conference? I almost peed in my pants when I saw that - the East Coast SEC/Big 12 juggernaut goes for the Big 10! Anyway, this will be a great year for the Big 10, and I predict that the winner of the conference will challenge USC in the Rose Bowl.
