Stella + iPod
Unfortunately the site is down right now, but should the opportunity arise, you would be wise to checkout the monthly playlist at CatBirdSeat.
I need to thank my wife April enthusiastically for encouraging me to revisit The Mountain Goats "The Sunset Tree". You're right: moving, brilliant, depressing, inspiring.
My recommendation to you, dear friends & family, is to find one of these. Then add one of these, mix well with equal parts of the aforementioned Mountain Goats & CatBirdSeat. The West may be dying, but that doesn't mean you can't warp it all into some impressionistic blur with the warm Tennessee wind whipping through your hair.
Now if only I could knock back bourbon neat on the Stella w/ iPod. Such things are perhaps rightfully reserved for a future mode of existence.

Ah, yes, Sand Mountain. Technically, my great-grandmother lives in Fort Payne, down the mountain, near the shrine to Alabama, the country band. But I like the idea of a mountain with snake handling churches better than a hosiery town.
As for more vicksburgbloggers, well, we can hope for a sudden boom in everyone's favorite river town, but that seems unlikely. I wish I had more ideas than I do.

With the price of gas going up, the Stella seems like a good way to ride in style and still save money. Maybe I need one? I'd actually prefer to ride my bicycle to work, but there are no showers available for us and the 14 mile ride would work up too much of a sweat. You, OTOH could get by with something like this. However, this one is way cooler and still very utilitarian.
