The Road Calls
I'm not sure I can describe the joy and the fun of riding my scooter. I met up with Mark who was working on the new Clumpies stuff over at Widgets today at Lunch, and he grabbed hopped on his Vespa and we hit the road for a little cruise.
It. Was. So. Much. Dang. Fun. I couldn't stop laughing or smiling. The experience is great, and quite frankly, I can't stop laughing at the image of two "larger" guys on scooters. After we drove by Michael & Caleb outside of Tricycle I don't think they could either.
The experience almost screams to form some kind of gang. Just having Mark cruising increased the fun exponentially. I can't imagine what its like to have a whole group of folks scootering it up. Makes me look forward to the HCUSC [new site should be up tomorrow, using our new CMS] rally in Atlanta in September.
Plus. $2 for a fill-up to get 200+ miles? How can you beat that for economically. And despite being new, the scooter was pretty dang cheap. I mean, I wouldn't want to take long trips on it on the interstate, but for getting around town its perfect.
You can get a ton of accessories for the Stella. I pretty much just want the rear rack, cowl protectors (has a passenger footrest), chrome horn cover, front bumper protector, legshield protectors, and mebbe the chrome hubcap. I don't really dig the windshield or any of the big seat-backs or cases you can get on the back.
The biggie would be getting a sidecar. I would definitely love a sidecar, ever since Garden State. Unfortunately they're a ridiculous $2,200 bucks and they're backordered 3 months, not that I could afford it anyway.
Anyways, if you have the means, I highly recommend getting a scooter. In the words of Ferris: it's "so choice".

pretty sure most gangs have the intention of being feared--not laughed at.
maybe you should postpone the whole "gang" thing until you get a better word for it...like association, group, goobs, scooter guys...something along those lines.

ps forgot to say--put some pictures up! i'm frackin' jealous like nobody's business. unfortunately, my wife would rather me ride my bike to work than a scooter.
i don't get it. she thinks scooters are dangerous and thinks i can manpower my way out of traffic faster than a motorbike?
funny stuff. anyway...put up some pics! and yes, i think the gang thing is a great idea. might get you a new level of respect in st. elmo and beyond.

I'm with ya Daniel on wanting a scooter but not sure the wife thinks it's safer than my bike. I ride 8 miles every day to Geoorgia Tech. My hip should give out in 5 years and then I'll have the necessary excuse to buy a scooter. I'm glad they are sexy again.

I think the first order of business for your gang should be to give out nicknames, pimp your scooters, and find a place where you can "hang out" and flaunt your gangness.

you and mesh certainly did look fine on that nifty hunk of mint-green metal.

Josiah,
Congrats. I am excessively jealous. I am hoping to accquire a moped this fall at some point.
You should start a gang. There is a vespa group with jackets and everything here in Seattle. And, of course, there is the moped army (mopedarmy.com).
Have fun . . .
