In Your Rose Pink Cadillac
Saw The Wedding Crashers & Charlie & The Chocolate Factory this weekend. I really enjoyed the former but can't recommend it; I also enjoyed the latter and can recommend it.
Dead Flowers, particularly the Cowboy Junkies cover, still stands up over all these years. Very hard to not just put that one song on repeat. Mark claims its not a good Monday morning song. I claim I've got control of the Airport Express.
I also purchased the new Harry Potter book last night and made it some 200 pages in. No big twists thus far, just the usual fun, familiar Rowling build-up. It's also a joy drifting back into that world.
I've become fascinated with Alligator Gar. It was Ron who first turned me on to them, telling me stories about when he was a kid, his brother trying to throw him into schools of Alligator Gar while water skiing. Freaked me out. They can grow over 10 feet in length and way hundreds of pounds. They inhabit lakes, ponds, and murky rivers and the big ones grow mostly in the southeastern US, in the delta area of the Mississippi. They look like some kind of prehistoric fish monster.
My interest has led me to one of the funnier websites I've seen in awhile. Alligator Gar Jewelry.

growing up i went to camp every year on a nearby lake. we would find dead gar floating or that had washed onto shore, and i was convinced they were monsters.... the ones we saw were never ten feet though, but still pretty big.

My grandfather took me to a little hole-in-the-wall country restaurant when I was in high school that had an 8-foot Alligator Gar mounted on the wall. It wasn't skinny like the picture in Wikipedia though--it was as big around as a car tire.

You just wait for that Harry Potter book. I finished it in two days, and I, at least, think it differs from the others quite a bit, but in a good way. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

Hi, I'm Dianne from the Gar Scale Jewelry site. Nice to have y'all drop by for a visit today. I don't understand what is funny about our site? I guess what I do is unusual, but gar scales are really neat to work with. They look like ivory & are enamel like teeth. They aren't easy to drill or carve, but over 20 years, I've developed ways to work with them.
If you have any questions about gar, gar scales, or the artwork I do with them please ask. Thanks for your interest. Dianne~
