Oh For A Good Bar/Pub

Can't tell you how much Athen's always depresses me a little, as in I get very dissapointed that Chattanooga has such a horrible bar scene. Durty Nelly's has lost all its soul and its not even open past 9 anymore. The Safari closed down. Buddy O's on Broad is gone.

Our options are limited to the The Meeting Place (four stars) and the Pickel Barrel. Taco Mac and the rest of those bizzare bars on Brainerd are just sad.

Anyways, Athens has the virtue of being an actual college town, and there were simply too many good watering hole options to choose from.

I met up with Scott while I was there. We drank some beer, talked economics, church shtuff, racism, marriage, etc. He was gracious enough to give me a housewarming gift, Jane Jacob's "The Economy of Cities". Hopefully when he finishes up his Ph.D he and his wife Paige, their son Miles and their daughter-to-be will be able to get a position up here in Chattanooga.

Also we rolled the new Olan Mills site out last night. Props to Joseph-Jennie-Mark-Kyle on this one.

um, hello? cbc on cherry street was it? cmon that place is awesome. so is lamar's. and sidewinder's on the backside of the mountain? granted, chatty is no athens or austin, but it's got some good dive bars.

And it has Parkway, crown jewel of the dives.

Does Lamars still have velvet walls in the bar? I remember walking in there, smoke haze, velvet walls, and mood lighting. very cool.

Yeah durty nellys took a huge step back with the charging of refils for sodas. Granted i go there to drink. The chatt cat is apparently a hipster north chat place tohang, drinks aren't too bad and they have good burgers.

But nothing beats the safari, friends, food, beer. I like the pickle for its atosphere and food but the alcohol is a little overpriced.
