Weekend Recap & The Current Nominations

Abbie rolled into town last friday night and it's been great hanging with her thus far. I worked a bit Saturday morning. Then we all went down to the new riverfront, which is unbelievably amazing. Boy, I can't stand all those rich mountain people spending their money on things I can't enjoy. Time to take the power back. Enough sarcasm: the new river-front is gorgeous. We're going to hit the aquarium expansion this week, and I'd love to actually take the time to do the entire riverwalk.

Then it was a party at Andy Ross' house for his birthday. The Gosey's were there, Trevor, and some folks from New City. Good times all around. We also played poker.

Sunday was church. Bob preached a doozie. I submitted my complaint to him after the service that it's a real shame he waited until after he was officially leaving to start preaching guns blazing. He's just lucky I missed the congregational meeting last Friday to dissolve the relationship 'tween C-stone and himself. I'd have voted against it. I figure if he's gonna jump ship on us he certainly doesn't have any right to expect us to make it easy on him. I just don't think he's jumped through enough hoops.

We then watched an "ok" movie called Final Cut. An interesting idea poorly executed. After that it was Mississippie Burning which always gets me fired up over racial issues. Was surreal watching it after the whole Little Geneva racist fiasco. It was like slightly less theological adept versions of them on screen.

What it did was make me slightly ticked off about Cornerstone. Here we are smack dab in the middle of a diverse, developing neighborhood and we're barely appealing to the white southside yuppies nonetheless the African American community. You've gotta appreciate the OPC's bold striving towards the middle as a friend once put it. And it's just as much my fault as anybody elses. I suppose you could excuse it all by asking the question "what are we doing trying to appeal to anyone?"

Then it was Mesh's b-day part on top of the pickel barrel. Good times. Finally met John Bailes in person. He's a good guy. Had some great talks about Jung, Habermas, and the Episcopal church. All while drinking tequila.

Finally, the current Chattablogs Executive Council Nominations are:

I nominate Ben Huffine. Also Scott Cunningham, in hopes that he'll be forced to blog again.

I don't know how many shots or mugs Mesh downed, but he's was alert this morning when I called in four stories for the Pulse. Yes, four. (The bastards are slave driving me over there.)

On the cusp of a creaky deck atop Pickle Barrel, I must admit I was having fun with Mesh and Company, especially Morris and JosiahQ. I swallowed my pint or two of amber and attempted managing an onslaught of theological inquiries. Had we had time (an eternity?) JosiahQ would have been told he reminds me of my brother Scott, a missionary in Mexico City. But we'll talk in the by.

Aaron- He's been around since March at Hatful of Hollow.

Let's bring Ali Crumley to the mix.

Posted by: StelmoDad at May 23, 2005 06:20 PM

He's back? Well, I'll be hornswaggled.

Sorry to hear about Bob leaving...good man. Visited your church once and heard him preach; was very impressed. Diversity is difficult amongst dissenters, I guess.

We should have lunch sometime...hot dogs?

Posted by: integragreg at May 23, 2005 10:19 PM

Sounds like you could get some more diversity going if you'd lay off the sauce long enough.

Either that or host a U2 concert.

It's all about priorities.

Posted by: Badonicus at May 24, 2005 01:15 PM

I nominate Willow Ufgood.

Hey, it's everybody's favorite slice of white bread Badonkadonkas (aka Timothy Schnartz). Tim, I thought about you again recently while watching American History X. You remind me of one of the characters.

Allow me to second the nomination of Josiah, and nominate the one who called himself Physical Pants (this will force him to move his blog from Motime over to Chattablogs, thereby meeting the requirement).

"All while drinking tequila." "I don't know how many shots or mugs Mesh downed..." "I swallowed my pint or two of amber..."

What a pack of little girls, really. Y'all sound like a sorority, a coterie of 18 year-old fillies, away from home for the first time at college, having just discovered alcohol. "Lookee! We got some booze! We're relevant!" Is that all y'all do? Drink and then remove all doubt about your foolishness?

Let's see...y'all smoke cigars, too, don't you? And you own at least one Bowflex between you? And you watch Rachael Ray with clocklike regularity?

What a pack of little girls, really. No wonder the Reformed faith in America is diseased.

Posted by: Scorebored at May 24, 2005 04:00 PM

boy, if only Mesh and John were a "cotorie of 18 year old fillies". I'd be hanging with them more often.

Besides, who the heck says "fillies" anymore? Now I'm just confused. paging John Wayne.

oh, and John is *39* with kids. I'm inclined to think cigars are lame too, but only if you are, in fact, fresh from home college student, which John (and the rest of us for that matter) are not (and I prefer Winston lights, Mesh Camel Lights, and everyone else some kindof hodgepodge)

Me personally, I just love tequila on a warm Southern night. Doesn't get much better. Bourbon in the Fall and Winter. Tequila in the spring and summer. I am forever indebted to our brown skinned brothers to the South for that gift alone, and I'm all about opening our borders wide, if only to take jobs from Bad, Harry, and the rest of the kinistististists. You guys aren't contributing as it is, might as well give it to some people who want to be here.

So, Badonkyklucker is Timothy Schnartz... I wonder if he's related to Mel Schnartz of Delray Beach, FL...

I second the nomination for Alicia!

The OPC recently has laid out some intentional objectives about increasing the diversity/urban factor. The way it usually does mission works doesn't necessarily help that factor, so they're trying to come up with more effective measures, which includes longer-term funding than is typical for a traditional middle-class mission work. Don't you remember reading all of this in the New Horizons, last fall, was it? I know this initiative is something we're interested in being a part of.

How nice that your church is established in such a neighborhood already. Maybe you can get with your elder and see what things can be done.

I would only accept any nominiations if someone will redesign (for free) my blog. (by the way, I am both Alli Crumley AND Alicia, so that counts as two nominations) Thanks for the nod Jeannette & StElmoDad
