WebDesign International Considering Chattanooga its Permanent US Host City

So a few days ago Mark n' I get an e-mail from the guys at Tubatomic that a couple of reps from the Webdesign International Festival were visiting Chattanooga to checkit for having the necessary facilities & appeal to permanently host the US Webdesign Festival, and that we needed to meet at the Convention Center for a presentation and to help sell the city.

So of course, we spread the word and Mark n' I headed over to the Convention Center. The main Webdesign Festival is held in Limoges, France, from which the US winners would compete with and attend.

The meeting at the Convention Center had a good turnout, with folks from the Chattanooga Tech Council, the Chamber, the City, the local chapter of the AIGA, UTC, and of course Coptix & Tubatomic attending. As far as I could tell, the two reps Pia & Benoit, seemed very very impressed with Chattanooga and even mentioned that they felt that the engagement of the City in technological development and the IT sector was beyond their own city. Bizarre to hear our little 'burg compared with the city which hosts the web development festival.

Anyways, Benoit & Pia at least seemed to love Chattanooga, though they've still have to visit Chicago. They did say one of the big appeals of Chattanooga is that its of a similar size, and er, ethos to Limoges. I surmise they haven't visited East Ridge or read the Enigma, and lets hope they don't.

Either way, if they DO pick Chattanooga, its going to be ridiculously huge. Vendors like Apple, Adobe, Intel and the rest setting up big booths. A massive industry-wide tradeshow with webdesign competitions and seminars. Web design and web development companies from all over the US would show up once a year. Pretty much it would hurl Chattanooga into the webdesign limelight, so I'm both nervous and proud of my city that we seem to have a really got shot at this.

Of course, it cannot be understated just how much of this is due to the efforts of the Tubatomic cats who've been orchestrating this thing for some time now.

And its all certainly motivation to finish our dang site.

Hello Chattanooga,
Or should I say...home of the Chattanooga Choo Choo. I am a colleague of Pia (the French Organizing Partner). She just notified me that the Festival is already viewing on your blog. I must say, the festival here is France is an amazing gathering. I met Mr. Fritts of Tubb Atomic last year and I was excitement to hear that Mr. Fritts and his colleagues had inspired our district development corp to have Chattanooga as USA's festival site in 2005. Can someone please forward me address for Mr. Fritts.

Francois...Mr. Fritts' email address is fritts@tubatomic.com. Are you coming to the Chattanooga Festival? Paul

hehe, one post about chattanooga sites that suck, and another about a Webdesign Festival. I think it would be fair to offer Chattanooga Websites free tickets. You know what they say about your competition making you better!

And while free tickets are being passed out, my design skills are par at best... Besides, I would really enjoy the festival.
