Multifarious
I'm tired. Its Monday. No matter how much sleep I get on Sunday night, Monday still ends up feeling skewed towards its ends.
Since folks have now publically complained that I get back to the, um, regularly scheduled programming, whatever that means for a *blog*, I'll attempt a re-entry.
I've grown to be quite the fan of DesignObserver, which is the creme' de la creme' of graphic design blogs. It's got the big guns on its regular contributors lists with guest spots from folks like Sagmeister. Wait, is anyone like Sagmeister? [warning: link not for faint of heart]
Michael Bierut has written a great little piece on using design to sell political ideas. Think of the power of this billboard. Its a shame so much of our ad space is filled with offensive pictures of Jim "The Insider" McMahan, or as folks like to call him 'round here Jim "The Ambulance Chaser" McMahan or Jim "The Arrogant Drunk" McMahan. Why couldn't his punishment have been to never, ever be allowed to advertise anywhere?
April and I had quite the fun weekend. Friday night we played a little poker action. I took second. Saturday we went to Katie & Richie Mesh-Isermans' post-post-post wedding reception. Then it was looking at houses. Then Isaac & Farron called us up to hit the Riverwalk from Farron's house on down (or up, as it were) to the Boathouse for some drinks.
The Riverwalk is ridiculously beautiful. I can't believe I hadn't walked it before. I really, really hope they manage to extend it all the way from Brown's Ferry around Moccasin Bend up to the Chickamagua Damn. What an asset it is. One more reason to vote for Ann Coulter for mayor. Can you see Ron Littlefield having that kindof vision? Maybe, if he can stop staring at all the balloons.
So we met up with Andy, Stephen, and Morris. Then we headed over to CBC and got our pool on. Mesh, Joshua Daniels, and Megan Roderick showed up and we had quite the little throw down over the good, the beautiful, the true, and the reletavistic nature of the whole dang thing. Namely, we, and by we I mean that general group of friends in which I run, suffers from elitist attitudes 'bout a great many things. A certain disdain for mediocrity exists but we, at least I, recognize the effectiveness of certain "who the heck are you to say that such and such a type of music sucks" arguments. So its this tension, you see. I suppose the conclusion we came to was that Christ insists on a certain striving for excellence in all that we do, but none of that is worth a bit without humility and love.
Onwards:
Church on Sunday. Sunday school was good. Wiped my first kids butt. Was disgusting. You gotta do whatcha gotta do though. I then got depressed. There's something about people passionate about mediocrity and the status quo. How do I keep ending up at churches which always attract a group of two of that kind? Blaugh. Don't assume anything from this paragraph. I should make an entire post dedicated to the issue.
Then Farron's house for a little Easter grubbin'. Good times. After that, Joe & Rachel Staven stopped by and we had some Quiche' for dinner. Very good times. Then poker. I won.
Now I'm off to the Ann Coulter Campaign Reception at the Choo Choo. Should be fun. All you St. Elmoians headsup: Ann will be walking door to door in St. Elmo on the 30th. Let me know if you'd be interested in chatting with her.

The election boils down to this: Littlefield is about Golf and Softball. Coulter is about the riverwalk and more contemporary recreation. Are we a city of golfers or bike riders?

Josiah, Design Observer is a great blog. Speaking of politically-oriented graphic design, did you catch any of the commentaries that compared the logos of the two Presidential campaigns? Here are a couple good links:
