"We'll Smack 'em In The Mouth With The Trophy Again"
During the dead-zone between the end of college football and the start of the baseball season I usually fill the void left with hockey. Of course, that's all gone to hell in a handbasket with the owners and the NHLPA acting like children. Boy, I wish I had the opportunity to bicker over whether or not I'm going to make 2 or 2.5 million a year. Rough life I tellya.
I used to be into the NBA, but in the last 10 years or so I've had to watch it degenerate into a show-boatmanship thug-fest. I'm not sure where the high-water mark was, I think it was perhaps Jordan's 3 point extravaganza when he had the flu during the Finals. Personal sacrifice for the team.
I had the pleasure of watching the Detroit Pistons win 3 championships in my lifetime, and despite all critics belief to the contrary I think they'll pull it off again this year. They're the best team. I don't care how great Shaq and Dwayne Wade look that's only two guys. If the Piston's proved anything last year it was that a team can and will handily win it all.
But anyways, despite their lack of press, the Pistons are quite the motley crew of wackos. Rasheed Wallace being perhaps the wackiest of the bunch. Concerning last nights win over the Knicks, he said:
"There's no pressure on us," said Rasheed Wallace, who had 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. "Most of the sports shows, outside of Michigan, they've got somebody else winning. It's funny, though. We'll see."
"When it comes down to it, we'll smack 'em in the mouth with the trophy again."
Who says something like that?!? And what on earth does it mean? I love it!
"It's like a heavyweight fight. In the beginning, that's when we were sluggish," Wallace said. "As you get later in the fight, like later in season, the cream is going to rise to the top."
Ah, bring on the playoffs. It'll mean only more Pistons (and Rasheed) fun.
And bring on April. Boy I can't wait for baseball to start.

Yeah I remember back in the day the NBA on NBC music used to get me all excited about some mad 'ballin action. But today its lost its magic and Jordan's third comeback was just a little embarassing. With the Admiral, the Mailman, and short shorts Stockton retiring I not even sure if I can name five NBA players, hmm, Duncan, Hill, ahh is Barkely still playing, Shaq, umm.....
