"Let it Be Known That God's Penmanship Has Been Signed With a Language Called Love"
I'm not the biggest fan of hip-hop as a genre, at least not popular hip-hop. "Bitches and ho's" music doesn't do anything for me, but that's also by no means a comprehensive characterization of hip-hop.
Anyways, I've picked up in a couple songs that the singer/rapper will say "take me to church" or "take 'em to church" and the song will switch to this intensely melodic, purposely compelling gospel style bridge. Often times like in Kanye's "Never Let Me Down" this ends up being the best part of the song, summing up the spirit of the whole endeavor, both beautiful and important.
So what I'm jealous about is that in more traditional "white" music if any artist stated "take me to church" it'd involve a segway into the lackadaisical. The Ref/Pres tradition ought to be embarassed that its so comprehensively lost a grip art, music, and life that the "world" can't even at worst rip us off or at best be inspired and engaged by.
This morning I visited an episcopal church that we [coptix] are likely going to working with on a few projects. Even their offices were a work of art, focused on their Savior. Growing up my mom used to tell me all the time that I needed to be faithful in little things, and well, I think the "little" things is intentional compelling worship, art, music, etc. And that faithfulness there helps us be faithful in the *big* thing, namely loving Christ and one another.
Somewhere along the way we became so focused on getting rid of the good that had gone bad that the exercise of such became the sum of our faith, even to the point that there was little left that could be corrupted except the exercise itself; and of course, it did.

There's only one white man I've heard say "take it to church" in the middle of a song, and do it convincingly -- compellingly, actually. I think you could guess the man, and maybe even the song. If you can't, it is of course...
