The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place

Band called Explosions In The Sky did much of the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights. Honestly, had never heard of them before now. Turns out they're something of fringe indie darlings, somewhere in the world of Godspeed, You Black Emperor and Mogwai.

I wasn't able to find the FNL soundtrack on iTunes (man, I can't wait for the day when its just defacto that anytime anyone ever released an album you can find it immediately on iTunes, we're close, but not close enough), but I could find the Explosions in The Sky Album "The World Is Not A Cold Dead Place". A couple songs for FNL were taken from that album.

Thus far its a pretty fascinating album. Its all instrumental, sortof rock instrumental, but thus far not wanktankerous at all. Explosions are from West Texas originally, and its kindof surreal how much their music feels like that barren wasteland infused with some kindof hopefulness. I know I'm perhaps reading this into their music since I just saw the movie, but Pitchfork has a review of the album, and they seem to feel the same way.

I know Mesh n' Beck n' Brent will be streaming it off my iTunes this week sometime, but for those of you who I don't work with I'd suggest dropping the .99 cents for a track or 3.

that is all

tomorrow morning there will be a sunday school post, a taste: cocoa krispies if kept in your pockets will grow into monsters with big teeth and there's a puddle of urine on the floor in the middle of the church service.

also "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever" is an even better album.
