Can You Be Perfect?

I just saw Friday Night Lights again for the second time. It got me more than the first time, which is to say alot. I'm of the opinion its the best sports movie ever. I mean, Hoosiers is a classic, in fact, I think it too is perfect. But man, those last 20 minutes of FNL, particularly the 5 minute half time sequence, is some of the best film-making of the year!

And my hope is that everyone has seen it now, because I don't want to give things away. So I'm going to make a couple points in the "continued reading" part for those of you who've soon it already.

Why I like FNL better than Hoosiers is that in FNL they loose. They don't make it, and all the virtues extolled in Hoosiers are represented in FNL without added import of the victory. That is, one might think the virtuousness of the virtues of Hoosiers is that in the end they do win, when in FNL its virtues of brotherhood, teamwork, love, sacrifice, 110% are virtues encouraged in the face of an experiencing defeat.

Further, I like that FNL deals with the important tragic nature of sports, adding a much more thorough portrait of the whole thing.

Plus, the soundtrack is great.

That's all. Brain is a bit frazzled right now.
