Time To Take It Down

I've been pretty quiet about the World Series. I'll explain why in a second, but first a joke:

Q: "What do you call 25 guys watching the World Series?"

A: "The Yankees"

The series vs. the Yankees demanded my full emotional involvement, and by that I mean for reasons simply internal to the series: the 3-0 comeback, Schilling, sweet Schilling embodying the terms "sports hero, Papi with the walk-off homers & hits, A-Fraud showing the Yankee true colors, and my personal favorite moment: when Damon found redemption I hit his grand slam. I cared about the ALCS before the first pitch was thrown, I was damn near married to it by the end (ask my wife, thankfully she was understanding).

I figured the WS was the Sox's to loose. They had everything going their way. I felt the Sox pitching was superior to the Cards and I knew the Sox lineup in completeness could put up far more runs than the Cards middle. Well, at least I chose to believe that was the case. The Cards are, after all, the winningest team in baseball and deep down I was scared, very scared.

But the WS was different from the ALCS. The ALCS was about vengeance, redemption, retribution, and righting a good many wrongs. The WS was and is about business; dead serious business mind you, but business none the less. The Sox have a job to do and its nearly complete. Tonight I want to see them take it down.

So, whether he knows it or not yet, the gathering will be at Mesh's. I mean, even my wife is excited. The whole thing has gotten her into listening to ESPN sports radio on the way to and from work. What's that all about? She called me today at lunch expressing her fears over going to a game 5 with Wakefield pitching again. She said she thinks his knuckleball was only good for one game against the Cards? what the heck is that all about?!? I mean, we're up 3 games to 0, but she's already got the Red-Sox doubt!

So, Mesh's, be there.

We will celebrate.

I hope they'll win just so they'll shut up about the damn curse.

The party is deserved. The Cards have been outplayed in every way. Enjoy, but let the Cub's curse live!
