The Sox & Jesus

Ok, everybody know's that Curt Schilling is a Christian. You can't get a microphone within 10 feet of him without him saying something about unbelief, his conversion 7 years ago, or God-given strength. Its a beautiful thing.

But after watching oh, 7 post-game shows now, with the exception of Varitek and Damon, every single Red-Sox player starts off talking about their faith and God. What was up with Mueller last night, a DeSmet i.e. "Chris Holton's Alma Mater" graduate, not even letting the interview start without a 45 second testimonial. Then Pedro pulling the same stunt, and then Manny!

I have no idea what's going on up there, but I have my suspicions. Now don't get me wrong, I by no means think that God chooses sides. What fascinates me about the whole thing is the micro-culture of the Sox, the Clubhouse community so to speak. Its filled with idiots, but at least half of them profess allegiance to Christ. The dynamic is fascinating.

What I want is links to some articles and interviews, if anybody has got 'em.

Johnny Damon has the Jesus-look going on. I say that should count for something.

All I know, and Lord don't strike me down, is that I made an off color satement during game 6 about how Jesus (aka Damon) couldn't hit worth a darn(he did have a .105 batting he was 2 for 19 post season). And then all the sudden he starts hitting and a grand slam in the 7th game. He sure showed me.

It seems like it's for the same reason liberal actors tend to espouse their political views? You feel a bit obligated, when you have that kind of podium that comes from being a celebrity.

Every athlete and/or rap artist talks about God (see Neon Deion, puffy, ray lewis--the killer) so you have to do it to fit in. We'll see whose side God is on when the sox lose 4 in a row to end the season.

The same thing happened to the Rams when they won the Super Bowl. Warner, a Christian before and after Super bowl stardom, seemed to spread the influence to the entire team. Whether or not it was more a "good luck charm" like "If i'm a christian we might win this thing" i don't know. Thats up to God to decide not I said the small fry.
