Bubba Ho-Tep

Mesh & I watched Bubba Ho-Tep last night. It was great, completely not what I expected, yet still an utterly insane story. Thing is, it was really, well, moving in parts. This totally surreal meditation on aging and past glory, had me almost choking up at a couple points. Seriously. Kinda left my brain spinning.

damon here is the biggest bruce campbell fan you'll ever meet, and he was very excited about this flick, and came away pretty dissappointed. apparently the first line was a bad indication. although I hear it had its moments.

That's 'cause Damon's a hardcore purveyor in camp, and Bubba-Hotep was only marginally camp, it was an altogether different beast, something unlike anything I've ever seen before, both vulgar and poignant at the same time, wrapped up in one over the top metaphor that, in my opinion, just kindof works.

I cant see how you can call yourself a big "Bruce Campbell fan" and come away from that movie disappointed as a Bruce Campbell fan. Bruce Campbell was great in that movie. He delivered a fantastic performance. Regardless of what you think of the film itself, you should have been thrilled to see Bruce at his best. He cant fight deadites forever.

Wow--I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. All of Cambell's regret and reflection as old Elvis caused me to reconsider my long-term goals--made me ask myself questions like: what do I want to look back on when I'm in the nursing home? And, in light of that, what should my current goals be?

Surprisingly, Bubba Hotep encouraged me to realign my goals with those that will have eternal significance. If I've ever seen an instance of common grace, that was it.
