Axl Rose & Video Equipment
Did you know that Chattanooga has one of the highest number of police killings of any metropolitan area in the US? At least that's what someone just told me, and I'm looking to find a source to substantiate that claim.
Even so, it gets me thinking that again, it'd be great to have access to some video equipment to do a short documentary, or even a series of shorts, on such issues. I know Bill, Mesh, and I are gonna work together on a project or two, but basically, if any of you folks out there are rich and either want to donate money or equipment, it'd be much appreciated. I'll get a tattoo with your name in it.
Also, I think Axl Rose may have been, for his short run in the late 80's early 90's, the greatest frontman ever.

For that period, or actually for EVER? 'cos Robert Plant was pretty frickin' great, and nowher near as obnoxious.

Gosey, I'm listening to Zeppelin right now, trying to rock myself into buying "How the West Was One", and the thing about Plant is not so much that he, as an invidual was mesmerizing, but that Zeppelin, as a band, functioned as the concert-medicine man. I just think Rose might have been more of a mesmerizing invidual when compared with plant.
I mean, I could spend hours just being stunned by Bonham or JPJ, but you know you couldn't take your eyes away from Axl.
But still...you're right...even with all that, Plant is so freaking stunning...

waitaminnit: have you seen the "west was won" DVD? if not, watch that then see what you think. Plant's riveting in those shows, strutting and slinking around the stage and wailing the blues like he's living it. Axl's alwayst struck me as a plant/tyler/jagger wannabe. He did it well, but i don't think there was much original about him or GnR.

For Axl Rose to be the greatest front man ever, wouldn't his band have to have more than three good songs?

I vote for Bono.

Gosey (and Kathryn)
In my mind, axl has just got pure decadent rock and roll frontman genius. Tyler has always been a bit of a joke to me, more like a parody of the frontman, and Jagger...well...can U blame an artist for his latter year sins?
But your right Gose, I do need to see How the West Was One. I'll try to snag it on Netflix asap.
And Kathryn, "three good songs", you're out of your element Donnie. You're like a child who wanders into a dark theatre and wants to know what's going on. You have no frame of reference.
All me to throw in some great GnR songs for you:
Sweet Child O' Mine
Welcome to the Jungle
Paradise City
14 Years
November Rain
Don't Cry
Patience
Nightrain
Used to Love Her
You're Crazy
Live And Let Die
Dead Horse
Civil War
You Could Be Mine
and some might say estranged too...plus the Knockin' on Heavens Door cover & Yesterdays, though I was never too fond of them

I'd agree on the first three songs, but I wouldn't call the others "great."
Posted by: kathryn at July 8, 2004 11:05 PM
K, that's insane. Patience, Used to Love Her, and 14 Years are incredible, and November Rain is the only song in like, 15 years of attempted imitation to come anywhere close to Stairway to Heaven. Pretentious and wanktankerous as all get out and freaking awesome.

I would put Civil War in that list of great songs with Patience, UtLH and 14 Years. I have also always had leanings towards Get in the Ring, though I don't know if I would say it was great.
The Dude abides...

If you are penalizing for latter sins, do remember that Axl replaced his bandmembers, got cornrow braids, and pretty much sold-out. Only Scott Weiland benefited from it.
I prefer Kobain myself.

I think that there are very few Gn'R songs that don't fall into the incredible category. I agree, Axl and the original band were one of the best of that era, and that Rose's hypnotic performances were nonetheless captivating. The recent decline of Axl Rose is unfortunate, but you can't blame him for trying to keep his legacy alive. It's those kind of things that sustain people like him to live at least a little bit in reality.

Welcome to the Jungle and Sweet Child of Mine to me I personally think are the greatest, and I think Axl should never have even thought about replaing the original band members and about getting Botox.
