Brain Fry

There's so much that's happened in the last week that it'd take a dozen blog posts to get it all together. Half of them would be a factual run-down of events, the other half would be, well, commentary or something. I haven't had two minutes to breath; last weekend April and I were up at Quantico, got back Sunday night just in time for Sopranos, then Monday I was down in Athens all day with Jeff & Ben meeting with a new client. I just haven't had two minutes to just chill.

Anyways, when I've been able to steal 2 minutes I've been working on a massive blog post 'bout our time up at the Marine Base in Quantico, when its done, I'll post it, hopefully today.

But to give you at least something for your trouble, I've been working on a theory why muslim nations are, in general, by any number of standards (arbitrary or no), really screwed up. My theory is that there is a direct correlation between the civility & stability of a country/culture and the way women are treated inside of that country/culture.

Ask any guy: the most trouble of mischief they've ever gotten in was when they were hanging out with a big group of guys without any girls around. When I watch the news or read articles about riots and chaos and civil disorder in muslim countries, there aren't any women around. Its one big frat party (nevermind what I believe to be the inherently amoral nature of Islam given particular assumptions I have about the exclusive nature of Christian). I'm telling you, if women weren't locked up in the back room (as both a particular case and as a metaphor for Islam culture in general), I guarantee you islamic countries would be lightyears more civil and orderly than they are now. There's nothing like a woman to get a big group of guys to stop acting like hooligans and to behave like adults, or, well, at least to try to look *cool*.

So my contention is that until muslim women en masse rise up and start demanding equal rights, peace and quite frankly, civilization will not reign in most muslim countries. Women are the guardians of civilization; men love the mob or the military.

of course, I realize I'm assuming a really negative view towards many islamic countries, but I ask you, quite frankly, would you want to live in one? In general, I think if one had to choose, we'd pick the west.

You touch upon a very important matter in Islamic nations. 2020 once did a program about women in Pakistan. I believe they noted that there are 15,000 women in prison with little hope of a trial. In an Islamic country if a woman is raped she can be thrown in prison!!! We so take for granted the fruits of a Christian world life view that has influenced and shaped our nation. May God open the eyes of this generation lest we lose our spiritual heritage.
Proverbs 29:2 "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan."

Um, Josiah, surprisingly I think I disagree with you. Hitler had a girlfriend/wife, right? There are plenty of messed up countries with women who are involved. You need to read "The Nine Parts of Desire" if you havne't already. I would be interested to hear your thougths about women demanding equal rights in the church also.

Josiah,

Hey I'm going up to GV next week...any chance you'll be around?

Charity, I think there are, of course, exceptions. Its not an absolute, but I still think there's something to it.

In a couple days I'll probably have a post put together on why I dont' think women should be in the military. The same assumption I make above about men being more inclined towards either anarchy or rigid hierarchy I'll argue from to conclude that women in the military decrease functional coherence and present a serious liability.

I may be inconsistent, at least, inconsistent with other folks who hold similar views, but I also feel very strongly that the church has been oppresive towards women and that the Reformed and Presbyterian church today in some of its more fringe sections treat women in a very un-Christlike fashion that really needs to be dealt with.

And yet, I still think that men and women are fundamentally different with, in marriage & the church, different roles. I guess I'm this big bundle of apparent inconsistencies. I suppose I just want to have my cake and eat it too.

Josiah, I think that you hit some really good points in this post. I would have to say that I almost totally agree with you (would almost be a first on most topics), with some exceptions like Charity mentioned. The thing that consistently amazes me about radical Muslim culture, or even Islamic governmets, is that there idea of a good living condition is essentially turning the clock back 800 years to when Islam was dominant, culturally amd socially. The only big problem that radical Muslims don't seem to get is that it is 800 years later. The world has changed and thoughts like freedom are out there and once the cat is out of the bag, it is nearly impossible to put it back in. So the response is largely, kill those who let the ideas like freedom out. This does nothing to the concept of freedom, though seeing many Democrats response to the war on terror, you might get that impression.

I have reveiwed your latest videos and see that you have more that you have not posted. Where do I go to access more of you videos or others. I have a nephew in Karbala that shows up on FOX news and thats the best clips I have seen short of yours.

Your help is appreciated.
